I feel the same as you about Toms work, but the Home Page has traditionally been OEM bike territory, so I would defer on that decision to Glenn.

I beg to differ .... my EVO 1 was probably the longest running member home page bike image in the existence of this forum, and far from "OEM". I second Tom's bike ...

How about a member can only be featured once a year. It would be nice to see other's on the homepage. As a suggestion, Rick can peruse the Members Picture Forum or a completed build and select one he thinks would be illustrative of what this site is all about.

Personally I think this bike doesn't reflect the CB1100f...

It might do well on a modified 1100F site... Not here.

Again my opinion... the stock 1100F's Euro, and USA sexiest bike Honda ever made.

This site certainty accepts CBF mods and has forevever. We've had non stockers on the home page before.

What an idiotic thing to say. What part of that bike isn't exactly what this site is about? So I guess Captain, Darren, Cary, everyone else who mods, or reads the Performance Technical section here should find another site. Please do us a favor and post your stock orange 1100F for all of us to "enjoy." Lets be honest, your a cheap fuk who is pissed that Tom won't do your work for free. Instead of recognizing the bike for what it is and the work that went into it, you grind your weak ass ax on a public forum. I've been riding street/track for most of my adult life and can say first hand, that bike is a blast to ride, and Tom's attention to detail was amazing. ...But you wouldn't know riding or performance sucking exhaust from the back of the pack, again first hand knowledge. Discrediting an amazing machine for personal reasons and calling it junk is pure BS. Keep your "opinion" in Maine.

Love Darren's Evolution. In my opinion it maintains the F bike look. I look forward to him restoring/enhancing a bike for me someday.

People can have opinions, its not personal. Just my opinion, removing the rear shocks doesn't enhance the look of the bike... to me... it just looks wrong...

And... at my slow speed I wouldn't trust the geometry. Again that is my opinion.

I like Tom's bike. It is a beautiful restomod with great attention to detail. Truly a superior effort. I feel it is worthy of the home page. Congrats Tom. It definitely gets my vote.
As for the purists out there, a stock bike is beautiful as well. Both are deserving of the home page because both represent what we do here and what we love.

I asked Tom about the differences in handling between the mono shock and twin shock. We talked several times in detail about it. I also read some reviews from professional riders who discuss the differences between the old style and new. It is drastic.
I am convinced to the point that I have had my new build converted by JJam and am looking forward to riding the bike with the new style mono shock suspension as opposed to the older style twin shock.
Another thing that convinced me was watching the jumps at Ceasars Palace by Evel Knievel and his son Robbie. One having twin shock and the other mono shock. Check it out for yourself...
Any improvements that can be made to the CB-F Sport bike for the better are good in my book

restored stock is nice but when you have seen one

I respect all restorations and totally understand a purist's point of view. I would never do this to a pristine or really nice, original 1100F. Both of my RM's came from the ashes and would have normally been parts bikes. This one in particular had very little left worth saving, besides the motor and titled frame, so the canvas was pretty much bare. It turned out to be in large part, a collaborative effort with inputs, parts, and help from many of our forum members. That makes it extra special to me. The intent was to build a bike with modern suspension, better brakes, and improved handling, while maintaining the look of a naked 1100F.

A big +1 for Tom's reasoning for building RM 2 and +1 to Hondo 57 as well. After seeing Tom's RM 1, reading thru his build notes, I committed myself to going monoshock with my build. My frame is currently w/Jjam awaiting install of '07 CBR 600 swingarm, Captain's steering neck, and truing the frame for optimum rake & trail. This won't be cheap, but I'm convinced it will produce a bike w/superior handling characteristics more akin to today's bikes. I vote for Tom's RM 2.

I'm totally on board with one of Tom's awesome resto-mods being on the homepage!!. I personally love that swinger and the mono-shock look. I would say that members who have kept their bikes OEM stock are in the minority. Mine was totally stock in 2012, but it was boring!!

It depends on the implementation of course but if everything is equal e.g., same swingarm, wheels, tyres, damping ratios etc. then the main variable is motion ratio. Dual shocks are close to 1:1. If you made a single shock linkage system behave the same then you shouldn't feel much difference. However the biggest advantage a single shock linkage system has over dual shocks is that the shock piston moves a lot slower which controls damping much better.

I still have the old 81 twin shock with the 89' Ohlins. It is a great handling and fast bike. No complaints ever.
The new build will be that much and more.
(82 tank stripe..long story)

IMHO, Tom's RMII is indeed a most worthy candidate bike to take pride of place on our forum. Super clean and fab. attention to detail. If only Honda would build them like that...

nothing sexier than a stock euro rear fender. yeah right.

plenty of bikes look great in pictures. then you get close.
the only way to truly appreciate Tom's builds are to get close. like others have said, its the attention to the details. and there are many details. then like Mike said, there's the performance. I've been lucky enough to ride both his resto mods and they're incredible. very confidence inspiring. I'm a big fan.

when I saw the home page I thought to my self, well its about time. good for you my friend.
