Going thru local Craigslist, found a 1995 CB1000 Big One - about 90% complete, partially disassembled non-runner w/46K on the clock. Parts for these aren't easy to find and often expensive when you do. A red tank is really rare to find - has a red tail cowl as well (complete w/fugly decals). Came w/really nice pair of KYB shocks (Kaw ZXR1200), new euro (Super Four) cluster (although it might be Chinese mfg) , stainless Two Brothers 4/1 exhaust, Corbin seat needing repair, VG cond. OEM seat, and pretty good rubber on the OEM 18" wheels.
I have a '94 Big One in black - a PO cut off the mounting "ears" to the tail cowl grab handle. This red '95 has the "ears" intact, so I can use them as a model/template to make a new set for my '94 or just cut them off and weld to the black bike. The bike is registered non-op and owing to the mileage on it, I'm keeping it as a parts bike - no plans to resurrect it. Most of the parts I've mentioned will make it onto my black '94, turning it into a red '94. This may not qualify as a "score", but I'm happy w/the price I paid for it.
I realized the Big One uses the same dia. fork legs as the Yamaha FZ1 forks that will go on my 1123 build - there's an outside chance I may be able to use the triples from this bike for those forks if they have enough offset and give me enough ground clearance for a 4/1 exhaust. I may try to adapt the countershaft mounted speedo cable as well. All in all, a good weekend. -Ed |

You indeed can use the triples from these forks and even the forks if you want, as they have the desired 40mm offset and close to stock 900F length overall! Good find! |
