Anyone know where to get these. I recall they used to be available from Parts and More but that was years ago. |

I rebuilt mine last year, and I believe that I got the rebuild parts from Bike Bandit. They pop up pretty frequently on eBay, too. |

I had to dig back through my eBay purchases, but I found it. The part number is 16953-ME5-025. Ebay has a few listed now. I got mine from Partzilla eBay. Looks like Ron Ayers and BikeBandit both have it, too. |

Thanks,
Interesting that the SS parts fiche only shows the entire valve assembly for $150 and long obsolete but other models show rebuild parts. Of course all the other models show it as part of the petcock. |

That's the way the auto shutoff valve is on my Ascot - it's part of the fuel tap. |

The auto fuel valve, made as part of the petcock, (a good idea in theory) on a customers Shadow was defective and is NLA.
It just so happened that the stock petcock from a CB900F that I have on hand fit perfectly. She asked "how does THAT work?"
I instructed her how to rotate the lever to the ON, OFF or reserve positions.
"Oh, that's simple enough".
So, if a 68 year old lady gets it............. |

My personal bikes have them removed, but when I'm restoring bikes to be sold as stock I keep them in place. Truth be told I've never had a problem with one that was in good shape. They work fine. |

+1. You maintain the rest of your bike so why not replace this every 30 years or so. Better still, replace the diaphragm whenever the carbs are rebuilt. |

+1. They will leave you stranded sooner or later. I had an incredibly hard time starting my bike CB900F when I bought it new in '82. Damn thing was a bitch to start. Would kill a battery. Turned out the auto vacuum valve was defective from the factory. After 35 years of riding, every single bike that came with one eventually failed to the point where a problem occurred. Now, they automatically (no pun intended) get yank and tossed in a garbage can. |

So will the whole motorcycle, may as well yank it too!
I've had bikes with and without them. I'd rather have them than not, and working properly of course.
Of course not ever using the petcock is a bad idea too. They tend to go bad then, and don't work when you need them most. |

I keep a replacement top/diaphragm and spring on hand since the parts still available. Some of us don't remember things like we once did O_O so having it in place in the event that I might forget to turn the petcock off (which I do also) is peace of mind.....with any bike, any number of things can strand us at any given point. |

An un-necessary component because some people are too lazy to turn off the petcock. Restoration is one thing, being practical is another.
