No
OHLINS Monting Instructions
NOTE !
"The shock absorber should be mounted with the cylinder head upwards. On the right side the gas reservoir should be pointing forwards. The left reservoir can be mounted forwards if the helment lock is removed. "
I like the fit looks and best of all the performance |

Have to agree with Russ. In spite of what Öhlins says. It looks like they would fit better on the right side with the reservoir mounted towards the back. |

I guess it depends on how you interpret 'pointing to the front'. Does 'pointing to the front' equate to the reservoir on the front or the reservoir at the back with the connector to the shock pointing forward? Ultimately, I did not think it affected the functionality either way and mounted mine with the reservoir at the back.
Dons highly modified CB900 has the reservoir at the back:
http://www.bikeme.tv/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/30ur5sh.jpg
They are probably not he HO140, but they are Ohlins, and the reservoir is at the back on the Captains bike:
I woud be concerned that with the reservoir at the front they may interfere with the side panels and damage them. |

Mine, when you get your own set you can mount them any way you like. When I am tired of this way I can flip them around for a while.
My new ones have no choice because of the adjusters.

Mine are towards the rear as well. As I recall, the orientation of the lower shock mounts necessitated it. (??) They may have changed it now. |

Mine are also fitted with the reservoir facing rearwards, as they are pressurised i would not think it changes the operation of them, I also fitted softer springs to mine, the springs were far too hard for solo use on the R
It had the Ohlins 480 -03 Springs fitted, 18-27 nm (159 lbs - 238lbs), I replaced them with the softest set available 480- 01 springs 15-24 nm (132 lbs -212lbs)

This is what I meant by the configuration of the lower shock mount. It can only go one way, which oriented the shock reservoir toward the rear of the bike. Do the newer Ohlins shocks have a different lower mount? |

Mounted them on my CBX according to the instructions that came with them. Now drop a set of Race Tech cartridge emulators into your front forks and the upgrade will be complete. These mods transformed the ride of my X .
The bottom clevis can be rotated to accommodate mounting with the reservoir facing front or back. |

They are not marked 'left' or 'right'. If you want to mount them with the reservoir facing the opposite direction, you also have to swap them to the other side of the bike. |

I never even thought about trying to rotate the bottom mount. I still think they look better facing the rear. |

You guys that mount your shocks backwards are crazy. If the shock police see that, you're dead meat. They don't even write a ticket. They shoot you in the face, take the shocks and bury you and the bike in a mass grave. And there'll you'll be...dead...with no shocks.
And all because you wanted to be different...you bastards... |

Shocks don't care which way they face. (at least these don't)
This is my idea of performance

I think the directions with the shocks say to mount them backwards...
After carefully checking that there was no reason to mount them that way (physical clearance, etc), I disregarded those instructions and mounted them the way I have seen bike racers mount those type shocks since well before I could afford a set.....Reservoir facing the rear.......

Finally - some real shocks instead of this Ohlins nonsense
...and don't get me started on naming a bike, or those weird looking monoshock conversions... |
