I assume this has come up before but has anyone ever seen that they value an excellent 1100F at 7 grand, 3,600 for very good?
Kelly blue book seams more reasonable at 3,500.
Reason I ask is I'm going through a divorce and an appraiser put my bike at $7,500. Just seams crazy. Its in very good condition at best. |

You have the opportunity to force the appraiser to "justify" the number he's used on your bike. There has not been a public sale of one that went that high in Two years that I know of. Even then it would need to be EXCELLENT ALL STOCK condition and VERY LOW MILEAGE to command a price that high. In VERY GOOD condition, prices have gone up this year as we've seen but based upon so many of the factors WE all know here, $3,500-$4,500 is a more realistic range DEPENDING.....
Good luck with this adventure buddy....been there done that bro... |

Yes, you need to have a list of "comparable sales" in the appraisal report. For each sale the appraiser must show the differences (pro & con) between your bike and the "comp bike" and then he can make adjustments for that difference.
If the comp is in better condition then a downward adjustment is made and so forth.
Bottomline - NO comps = invalid appraisal. |

You said "appraiser," but what kind of appraiser? Unless this guy specializes in vintage motorcycles, he isn't qualified to make that statement. Looking it up in KBB isn't valid either and it's lazy way to make a claim in your wife's favor. Just like a good real estate agent, he should look for comparable bikes that have recently sold publicly and use those as a base. If your bike is in VGC, then $3500-$4500 is reasonable. |

one might also pull the ohlins and other flashy bits and also put the spare dented tank on before the appraiser arrives. |

Thanks guys!!! You have all validated what I believe. And he does not specialize in vintage motorcycles at all. Im no expert but do believe he is way off. I also own a rare Harley motocrosser, am very much current on these. He valued it half what its worth so that told me right there. He is not up on bikes. I have a old xr-75 Honda 1975 in rough shape. They have value, maybe I could get 600 for it on a good day. He says $1800!!!! |

Who chose the appraiser for your situation? You can get another opinion. Did you ask about retail or resale value, and trade-in value really sucks at any dealership. |

Many times the amount that they are allowed to price it reflects a certain local area as well. Your bike cold be worth more in southern Cali than in PA or say Iowa.... |

if you need past values on the 11 let me know. I have saved a number of ebay auctions to pdf. mostly high value ones.
I kinda keep them for insurance reasons if I ever had to argue the value. |

At the end of the day, vintage bikes are only worth what somebody is prepared to pay, high end figure could mean the bike just doesn't sell or you could be waiting years for somebody to come along. Just because somebody puts a figure on it, means nothing when it comes to having dollars handed over |

Her lawyer. I will get my own if I have to but believe I can do this with research and come up with some fair values to back what I say. They have all my motorcycles valued at a price when in reality and being fair, I know its less then half that. |

I think you might want to look at this as her lawyer tipping his hand... Sounds to me like he's not out to play fair by playing fast and loose with the value of the bikes. Her lawyer is attempting to make it seem like you're receiving greater value in the split than you actually are.
I think I'd question the "appraiser's" credentials as well as his research and comps of actual sales.
I hope you also have a lawyer. Maybe he can come up with a different take on the appraisal and appraiser, and other details no doubt. |

Oh I believe you are totally right! I do have a lawyer so good there. I did a lot of research over the weekend on all my bikes. I'm now confident I have reel numbers to show that the guy is just not up on motorcycles. |

I know this is an older thread, but the excellent condition NADA value of 7,070 dollars is pretty close over here in Texas. With probably less than 8,000 sold here in the US for only one year makes these cb1000f bikes worth more than what the Kawa Z1R bikes are valued at...Saw one of them sell on E-Bay last month for 11,500 dollars...Try putting up a cb1000f in excellent showroom condition, like the bike I have that I paid 5,500 dollars for, on E-Bay and watch the collectors bid on it...These bikes are worth exactly what a collector will pay for them; you can forget about NADA and KBB....That value is there for the tax offices only and gives them a little hint what to charge you when you buy one..lol..I paid a good healthy price for my bike, but I bet I make money on it if I ever decide to sell it..! |

Having got the t-shirt a while back, you may want to consider offering her a side deal (for the whole divorce) minus the sharks. Even if it's less than you want, it might save time and you'll both get to keep more of the pie.
That worked for me, but it was 15 years ago in Australia, so YMMV. I think I offered 60/40 in her favour and settled on 65/35. Seems like crap but days in court and big cheques to pay your lawyers' BMW payments are crap too!
Best of luck. There is peace and happiness on the other side, even if it takes a while to get there. Hang in there buddy. |
