Click into the site search engine and type in "widest" into the word box and then "sonicrete" into the author box and hit enter. When you've done that change the search word to "profile" and leave "sonicrete" in the author box and hit enter again. This will produce a number of hits on this topic which comes up now and again repeatedly. It will save much re-typing and most likely you will find all you need to know...given enough time/reading.

The short answer basically is: The stock tire size/s tend to work the best. But you may find the actual size between tire brands to differ enough that you might find a larger "sidewall indicated size" that fits like a stock size tire. You do not wish (in most cases) to alter the tire contact patch by squeezing a larger/wider tire on a narrow rim. Ill handling is normally the result...even though it looks cool. Do a search and my words above will mean more to you.

Hey,

I have run bridgestone S11 (spitfire) for years. In the rear I have run 110/90-18, 120/90-18 and the 130/80-18. I also currently have all three of those sizes mounted on different bikes. The 110/xx has the best feel. It feels like stock, good turn in, very equal chicken strips front and rear and no hint of drift when I touch feeler. Only draw back is the slightly shorter overall height reved me up so my top speed at redline no longer breaks 200 (sissy k's) Crying or Very sad .
The 120/was close and way better then the 130. None of them look very different because the 130 squeezed onto the 2.15" rim looked skinny. It also wore very poorly, 3/4"-1" wide chicken strips when the front was spot on with about 1/8-14". Personally I feel the 120/90-18 is the best for looks, wear, height, turn in, etc. on the stock rim. You might find the 110 a little skinny and you wont notice the width of the 130 until it has a big goofy looking flat spot.

Good luck with those stock rims, Grant.

I concurr the best selection for the CB750FZ/A/B is the 120/90V18,
Both my CB750 FA & CB900FA came with 4.00 (METRIC sized) x 18 rears when new,
the 110/90 18 measures dimensionally closer, but the 120/90 18 gave best overall feel & grip.

The 130/80/18 is really only for the wider rims & wider swing arms on the CB900FC/FD, CB1100F & CB1100R. Very Happy

A mate had a 130 on a CB900FB that actually rubbed on the swing arm Embarassed

I think you mean the brake arm. The swing arm should not have rubbed the tire. Your mate's brake arm was bent. I ran 130/90 x18 when I had the stock rim. Now I run 140/80/18 with a modified brake arm. Swing arm comes nowhere near the tire.

I love the 404's from dunlop..

Even though it is more of a sport-tour tyre..

I am consistantly able to drag my pegs to the point of having to replace the peg guards(4 on the RH, 2 on the LH)..

Thank goodness I have a set of rearsets on the way from Wout..I'm tired of buying pegs just for the guards!..

Go 404..they are a good tyre..I get about 4k out of the rear but replace'em both at the same tyme..

I start to get wobbles out of the front when it hits about 4.5k..
