I been riding with an old SHOEI RF200 and for a couple of years been looking for a new helmet. i like the new modular types (flip up??) so finally plonked down loads of cash and bought one. my main reason is that i find my old helmet heavy and it bothers my neck after long rides. got my new one today and guess what? i swear the thing weighs the same as my old one if not more. by the way the new one is a KBC.

you need a heavier helmet and ride in a headwind for a while... get your neck built up...
then go back to the other...
it seems to me that the modular would be a little bit heavier anyway due to the added mechanics...but ive never tried one..
uninformed opinions go a long way |

My modular Rodia helmet weighs less than my Arai and cuts the wind better and I do not get the head or neck aches from my Rodia like I did with my Arai.
Goto ebay and look up Rodia helmets or modular helmets and then buy one for a $100.00 including shipping.
They work real good in head on collisions as I was wearing one when I hit the Bronco T-bone style and did a total face plant into the door of the truck without a bit of injury to my head. When I got home from the accident, I immediately threw out the two month old helmet and ordered a new one from ebay for another $100.00.
Nice red helmet that goes with either of my bikes including the blue one and my red Honda jacket. Perfect.
ebay link for Rodia Modular Helmets

i knew that modular would be heavier than a regular full face but i thought construction materials would have made a huge advance. any way i do like my new helmet and it fits very well i just hope it works well, maybe the different shape will make it more aerodynamic and my neck will not hurt as much . i'm not taking it back.

Yep. Just like putting on an open face (3/4) helmet. Especially if you wear glasses. (or are wearing sunglasses) Plus, much easier to talk to someone/run into a store/etc. without removing the helmet. |

I have an HJC SyMax that I love. It is a bit noisier than it could be, but the flip-up face is the best thing I could have picked up. I overpaid at $250 for it about 3-4 years ago from a honda dealer, but it is money well spent for the comfort I get when riding.

Any Ray, are you trying to convince us all that you have not 'bumped your head' ? |

Not even close, we all know I bumped my head. Did you bump yours?
Any and all of my dain bramage is from long before I started riding motorcycles. Geeze man, my hair is so short now that all the scars are visible. I have bumped my head many times and some of those times were severe bumpings with mild and massive concussions.
For some reason, the last time I bumped my head, some sense got knocked into it and I have been doing things the right way even when I am doing wrong. {Drive with no license but that is almost resolved having sent the reinstatement of driving privilages check to New York State and waiting on the results.}
Wow that was not too much of a thread jacking, sorry.
Buy a Rodia Modular helmet and if there is ever a need for it, the Rodia will do it's job well and you will have an intact head after the occurance of using it. |

I bought a Nolan 102 modular helmet this year and I love it, I wear glasses and it makes putting it on and taking it off alot easier. Very comfortable, beats the 3/4 helmet I used to wear big time. Another benefit is if you get caught in traffic you can open it up for better cooling. |

I was wearing a modular helmet when i had my low speed accident last summer and i'll never wear one again.
I suffered only a slight impact on the back of the helmet and yet when i picked myself up, the chin bar had lifted completely up into the fully open position.
I might as well have been wearing an open face helmet. |
