Hi Nick,
Too bad about the bike. Looks like there's no hope for it. Too bad about you too, but there's lots of hope for your full and speedy recovery (well, the ribs will take awhile). Here's another wish for that very result to add to the collection of well wishes.
In the meantime, listen to your doctors and nurses, rest and drink plenty of fluids.

Thanks again for all the good wishes guys. I seem to be mending well. Chest tube is out and my lung capacity is apparently huge! Not something I was particularly aware of before. Pelvic incision where my titanium upgrade was added has knitted together nicely and isn’t hurting any more. I still have a pretty ugly wound in my left thigh that is going to take some time to heal. And I cant really use my left arm to help move around until the fractured clavicle heals. But all things considered I’m doing surprisingly well. The report they have here says I wrecked at 60mph. I don’t really know what that means as I have little recollection of the event. Im guessing I low sided maybe at that speed and then slid into the bike or barrier (don’t know what I hit) at something less. |

Nick, I’m happy to hear your recovery is coming along and that you are doing reasonably well considering your injuries
Accidents on a motorcycle with guard rails or traffic signs are often deadly, I’m glad you made it out alive. |

Thanks Steve, I appreciate that.
Ive gotten a copy of the police report now. Learned a few more interesting things. Apparently aa well as a decreasing radius the bend dipped downhill. Could have contributed to my tires unloading. The report does not fault me at all and finds no contributory defects in the bike. The little stick man sketch shows the bike ahead of me so I don’t think I hit it and my injuries were just from me hitting the guard rail. The bike is now in two pieces separated at the head stock. And not surprisingly. the insurance has totaled it. Such a pity, it was a loverly bike. Im getting better every day. Rehab is working and I can take care of all my basic needs. Might be a few months before I can get back on my treadmill though. |

Well I have finally been discharged from hospital and am back home now. Due to an infection and then a blood clot I ended up spending exactly a month in hospital. I wrecked on the 12th of August and was discharged on the 12th of September. Back home now and in for the long haul of recovering my fitness etc. I hope to be able to ride again next season. The insurance has settled for an acceptable value on the bike although it wasn’t their first offer. We were just about to start arbitration when they got sensible. Thanks again for all the good wishes and hope to see many of you at the NE spring ride. |
