Amaroo Park was only 40 minutes away from home and was where I won my first race. Honda wanted to win this race so much they developed the CB1100R to do so and did...twice.
RIP Jenny Coates. (Interview at 1h17m26s) |

Some more vintage superbike style racing, although the “F” bikes were supplanted by the 1100r by 1981
Still good for me! Don’t know what version of the 1100r this is, as the bike is “ unfaired” ( is that a word? Lol)

That'll be an 1100RB. Had a shot at buying one once and let it go. Silly me. |

They were interesting events alright. A pretty much run what ya brung category comprising of showroom production, improved tourer or “superbike” and various TT-F1 concoctions. This link is an image gallery of the 1980 event.

The track was Oran Park Raceway and like Amaroo Park was less than an hour’s travel from my home. Both have sadly been closed and redeveloped into residential housing |

I rode in a 4 hour in Texas that year. We were on a Z1R
and finished 2nd and 1st team was on the newly introduced CBX !
by about 3 or 4 laps in spite of having to pit and change a front tire. |
