Ok, so I understand the difference between the two and three wire sensors. Three wire has power, two wire does not and is excited solely by the rotation of the engine.
Is there a benefit of one or the other esp. when using the ignitech ignition setup? I'm planning on using the two wire sensors on both unless there is a compelling argument to use the three. What do you think? |

Unless you have a permanent magnet as an exciter (you don't if you are coping my set-up) then you require a 3 wire (powered) sensor.

So I understood part of the 2vs3 wire sensors but not all. Thank you Brent for filling me in! |

Most of the 3 wire sensors are "Hall Effect" sensors that put out a digital signal. They read +12 or 0 or whatever the reference voltage is. A two wire sensor is going to produce a rising A/C voltage. How the signal is interpreted by the ignition is the only difference. It's said that the Hall effect sensors are more accurate, but that really depends on how well the signal is being read by the ignition itself.
There are also 4 and 5 wire Hall effect sensors too. |

I general I prefer Hall effect to VR sensors as the VR produce more electrical noise. It might never cause a problem on an ignition only bike but can definitely cause problems on an efi equipped engines |
