Yes normal to have oil on the left side .

Finally got a chance to work on the bike a little. I sprayed some red paint on the parts and it is an improvement over the blue. Hopefully it will be together before winter. Smile

That's a beautiful shade of red. I assume you shot this from a gun and not a can since it looks so good.

Thank you. Yeah, just shot it from a cheap spray gun we had for years. The paint is a generic candy apple red metallic enamel.

Good on you for getting to grips with the "electrickery" in your new project.

Thank you for the electrical tip. The connector from the stator does have one poor connector that still has some "burn" on it and the temper is out of the metal so that it does not always make good contact. If the system stops charging, I wiggle that "toasty terminal" and it starts charging again. I would love to replace it but I did not know a source for the terminals. Thanks again!

Are both sides of the electrical connector melted, or just the one in the picture?

Yes, both sides were melted. The rectifier was bad so it was replaced with a unit like your picture which also replaced the one side with new. The other half of the connector, from the stator, works fine but now has one poor connector. I did order some parts from the vendor herdygerdy linked and hopefully they will enable me improve the connection so that it is more reliable.

In keeping with the shade tree mechanic theme, got some paint and decals on the parts and hung them to dry. lol Smile

Still a lot to do but put the parts on and was able to take the first test ride. Here is a link to a short video and some pics of the different paint.
