someone noticed a post of mine that mentioned the two engines I have in the corner of my garage. His CB750 has a busted case. He's looking for a install-and-run motor.
He asked if mine were freed up. I think they are. The gentleman I got them from is a friend. He said they needed bucket shims, one need a starter clutch, the other some other bolt-on bit.
I'm trying to determine if my valuation is OK. My suggestions/thoughts to him....
"I have a 900F and a (I think) CB1000C with it's frame and drive-shaft. I got them with my 900F as a package deal. Pretty sure they're freed up."
and
"I've thought about trying to put it in a stand and put parts back into them. Then I need to stick time and money in.
Pose the question on the site and ask what a verified runner is worth.
You could probably find a bike with bad plastics; crummy paint etc that would have a basic running engine. Probably an easy swap."
I know my engines are worth more in pieces. They're valuable to me as spares. I could even probably bolt the one into my titled frame...
I was thinking $200.00 each as-is.
The gentleman interested in the engine is in lower MI, about 8 hours drive one-way.
I know there are other people closer also that might have spares for him.
(I did mention the Midwest get-together to him)
Question - am I way off the mark at $200.00?
TIA guys |

I would be the Gentleman that Emailed silversurfer. I have a question regarding fitting the 900f in my cb750f frame. Do i need the 900f mounting brackets or anything different? Or can i use my brackets from my 750f |

We have been having a similar discussion regarding Victa 2 stroke mower motors. One bloke has a good running motor, if he put it on ebay he might get $25 for it, but part it out and he would get at least $100 and probably throw the block in the scrap |

The solid mount motor will not fit into a rubber mount frame without a special bracket kit that was custom made by a member. I don't know availability anymore.

What do you mean solid mount motor in a rubber mount frame? Pretty sure my 750 is solid mount. It has triangular brackets up front one on each side then the two long ones. One in back and one on the bottom thru the foot pegs |

The motors on the 750 were "solid" mounted, bolted straight to the frame. The motors on 900 and 1100 are mounted using rubber dampers to isolate the vibration from the frame. As a consequence of this, it's rare to see a 750 mounted in a 900/1100 frame. The engines are physically the same size (with the exception that the 900/1100 cylinders are about .4 inches "taller", due to the longer stroke), but the differences in mounting result in differences in the castings, and clever folks have devised workarounds for mixing/matching frames and engines. All the info is here, with some persistence in the use of the Search Function, as well as the Service manuals, captured in the Technical Documents section.
Another resource can be the Parts Breakdown presented by several websites that sell parts (here's one: https://www.partsfish.com/page/oem-parts-for-honda), for instance. |

Fitting a rubber mounted motor to a solid mount frame is pretty easy. Contact Jjam for a kit. I might be able to dig up the dimensions I used for spacers if Jjam can't help. |
