I should have gotten a "No-Mar" tire changer years ago. To get from Picture 1 to Picture 2 took about 30 seconds. No more crawling around the garage floor with levers and spoons for me!!
And so begins the resurrection of my '82 CB900F. It is destined to receive F2 forks, wheels and swingarm, as well as CB1000C cylinders/pistons! Wooo Hoooo!

I received a 900 frame from Todd (TCRacing) for use in mockups and attached it to a dolly.
I plan to making some additional products (solid motor mounts, anyone?). This will save me from tearing down the 750 to check for fitment and allow me to make products specific to the 900/1100 frame. |

Worked on tearing down these these CR33's I got from ToddK. Darren is going to make them look nice. And I got the rebuilt kit from Sillygoose. This is a real F'er compendium of effort here. Thanks
1st picture is what a single carb teardown looks like. |

Anyone have any literature on how much of a downdraft installation angle the CR’s can tolerate before upsetting their operation? |

FCR manual says -5 to 35 degrees for the FCR horizontal carbs, less than 15 degrees lateral pitch. Don’t don’t see any similar spec for CR carbs. |

I run operate in "race conditions" at 17 degrees down draft and have no problems with operation from idle through full throttle. Heavy acceleration and extreme braking and the ECU data confirms it is stable.
If this helps...............

Thanks Brent. I found this old (1989) post from a Marc Wayne Salvisberg from Factory Pro Tuning and it got me interested in the subject...
“The first Downdraft Keihin smoothbore carbs in the world.
In about 1988, we completed a project to make "downdraft" Keihin "CR Special" carbs. Many conceptual sketches were transformed into reality and we did a couple things - made a fast cbr600f even faster and after tweaking the jetting a bit, ended up with a good, smooth running Hurricane.
Disproven was the myth that extending the fuel passageways would result in a real world "fuel delivery lag" that would always create a real world "bog". Our test racebike ran well - at least as well as any other "CRS" equipped bike.
The carbs were lent out, the bike was crashed and the carburetors were represented as "destroyed and useless and thrown away" but the rumor was that they were sent to Japan. They were never returned to us.
The crosschecking that the "angled float bowl adapter" method of creating a "level float bowl" from an angle mounted horizontal carb was accomplished when Keihin came out with their "downdraft" FCR series - complete with their FCR version of our CR angled float bowl adapters.
I have no pics of them, so if anybody has pics, please contact me. Thanks, Marc”
It appears some sort of adapter was used to redress the float level issue but I wonder how far you could go before needing one. |

Gave my brakes a quick overhaul. Nothing new added, just took them off their mounts, cleaned them up a bit, put in fresh red rubber grease as required, confirmed pistons were moving smoothly, reassembled, tested.
Then did a bit of general cleaning up amd lubed my chain |

I did do one other thing concerning my bike.
I sent Z3RO the payment for one of his exhaust systems
As it hasn't arrived yet, I'm not sure if that counts as something I did TO my bike today, but it's the first step
Next weekend I don't intend doing anythig to my bike, other than putting on a few miles. I've got tickets for a small bike club rally in the English borders country.
PARTY! |

I spent Sunday putting turn signals on the resto-mod and figuring out why the horn, signal flash circuit, and brake light function were not working. Tested the fuses first, and they were all good. Ended up ripping the whole bike apart checking the harness, connections, bulbs, switches, etc. Well, as it turns out all of those functions are indeed fused by the same single fuse. Checked it again and it was still good. Plugged in a different fuse block and everything worked. The contact on the back of the fuse block was bad for that circuit!
Now all is well and I can get this thing on the road. As soon as the Ice and Snow goes away that is
I also took the covers off my other bikes and commiserated with the old gal's that they would have to wait another week or two to go for a ride. |

Nice pic, Scott.
I am guessing that with those two hot rods there was an occasional stretch of the speed limits? |

I'll start by saying that I do get a decent amount of time to spend in the garage usually, but this weekend was especially awesome. My wife is writing her thesis to finish up grad school in the next couple months, so she has been working 14 to 16 hours a day glued to the computer typing and making figures and editing. She usually gets a little peeved if I spend evenings after work in the garage playing with bikes, but not this time. She actually told me to go out there and get some stuff done! Happy me
So....I took advantage. I had Friday off work, weekend off as well, and got home early yesterday to work all night as well. Solid 40 hours spent working on my bikes in the last 4 days!
I got my project 1100f restomod DONE and ready to get inspected/titled/registered.
Recent purchase of Blue Thunder, checked over, fuel treatement, cleaned, saddlebags installed, ridden, love it!
My CBX needed a little love because the front end was way too soft. I added a larger spacer on top the progressive springs and changed the fork fluid to a 10w synthetic from Maxima. New battery as well. Then I installed DYNA 3 ohm coils and new wires on it for good measure
Then the final project i'd been avoiding all winter...fork seals on my CB1100F....
I took my time and got it all disassembled, cleaned, new seals, bushings, circlips, dust boots, etc, done on sunday. Then I dug in and installed CBR coils and wires with the nice and tidy custom plate made by our fellow forum member here. Enjoyed INSTANT starting for the first time ever.
Last thing was to soak the new clutch plates in oil overnight last night and I'll install them tonight or tomorrow depending on what time I get off work.
So much productivity, I'm pretty much out of things to work on. Is this real life? I'm loving it
Best part? Spring is here! Time to ride these old gals |

Spring has finally sprung! Time to ride. Got 2 bikes fired up and went out for 2 nice rides. Took my V-Strom up onto the Tug Hill Plateau. They get MONSTER snow up there (measure it in feet, their record is like 6 feet in one night) and some is still laying around. With my 750F I knocked out a 150 mile loop and stopped for a break along the Black River in Felts Mills, New York, to see where all that melting snow is heading. A good day!

Looks nice Fitter, I am looking at a seat cover on Ebay and I was wondering if it is the same as yours that you just fitted.
Seat Cover
The cover is a great price but the shipping to Australia is a killer at almost double the cost of the item.

After 2 Years........... I started and rode my bike. Man was I ever happy. I can handle the bike ok and she ran great but I'm not completely "on my game" when riding. Have to get my skills back and stay safe. I went to the local "ABATE Bike Blessing" and got to see so many cool bikes. I'm happy to be able to do this again.

Thank you very much for your support and encouragement John (and everyone here). I would like to plan on the Fall ride this year...... Biggest challenge I have right now is that I don't fit into any of my riding gear. I need to lose a lot of weight and making the fall ride is a huge motivator for me. My strength is adequate and I need to improve my riding skills and awareness. But losing this weight is a priority to get back to where I was 2 years ago. Here is a picture of my bike at the gathering.

Not so much a "today" as it is a "this month" project:
-complete engine tear down to replace worn transmission
-new ex. valves
-Gene's Viton Valve seals
-Cap'n's Tensioner/guide combo
-painted engine with eastwood's 2k High temp ceramic
-new HEI coils / modules
not all the kinks worked out but still 1 more week till spring ride! *Fingers crossed*

Great to see you have Black Beauty running and back on the road. Hope you get feeling comfortable in the saddle again Dave, take it easy for the first few times out.
I hear your North Westerners have been getting some very nice warm weather!
I have yet to put 200 kms on my bike this spring.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!! When you're not riding, get walking and shed some L-B's!!

I checked the tires and oil on my new 650T then took her out for a 25 mile ride. Figured out about 10 things I want to tweak, adjust or fix while riding. I love this bike. |
