I once bought a box of parts and included was a decent but tired set of Koni 7610P-1413 shocks. Luckily our man NobleHops at Restocycle took over the Ikon brand and was willing to take a stab at them. You can get new Ikon shocks for your F from Restocycle, Ikon being the same as Koni's (move the 'I' to the end of Ikon and you have Koni) but for those wanting an authentic vintage look many of the Koni's can be rebuilt.
The results are in and these are now rebuilt with new seals and the aluminum parts freshly vapor blasted. If you have (or find a set) of these classic shocks it is good to know they can be rebuilt and be put back into service by Restocycle.

Rick, I'm always impressed in how well you are "plugged" in. Keep up the great work. Will file this for future reference. |

The shocks look great.
Are those the original springs that have been coated or did you get new ones from Nils? |

Those were the original springs, the work Nils did was replace the seals and oil, put in new rubber bumpers, and of course vapor blast the aluminum shock bodies. Here is a before picture

I like the look of the original finish better than vapor blasted finish . I have a NOS set with the aluminum body along with 3 used sets , 2 of which are aluminum body and one with chromed steel body . |

The aluminum should be easy enough to lightly polish to bring back to closer to original, or? I like those (in either finish)! Nicer than the Progressives I have on my 750 that you can't see cuz Photobucket screwed us (me). No animosity, none at all.
Nice shocks, Rick

Thanks Rick, those were fun to work on.
Yes we can totally rebuild most of the Koni 7610 shocks, there are some oddball parts on a few that we can't get, but so far we have been able to do anything that has come our way.
I did indeed take over an Ikon dealership here in the USA a year ago, and I have a substantial inventory of shocks, replacement springs, and also nice progressive fork springs too. As Rick points out, these are clones of the Koni they are derived from, the story is that when Koni decided to bail out on motorcycle shocks 25 years ago, their Australian distributor said, 'waitaminute!" and a deal was worked out to transfer the designs, tooling, patents, parts network, etc. They are the same classic twin-tube shock, updated in a few spots with modern materials and manufacturing, but nearly all of the modern parts are interchangeable with the old ones, which is how we can rebuild those.
I run that slightly separate from RestoCycle just because if its strong brand, and there is a standalone website with info on that here:
http://www.ikonshocksusa.com
I'll post up a little more info on those as it pertains to the DOHC bikes, we have some great products for these. But by all means be in touch if you have questions or if I can hook you up with shocks, springs or service.
Thanks again Rick!
