Would there be any interest from any of you to have your transmission gears, forks, oil pump rotors and related parts super finished? I'd like to maybe get a least 5 people to start. The company I'd be using is one of the best in the country and does quite a bit of work in the racing industry. Below is a link to a picture (not real great) of a trans they did last week.
It'll be around $300

Yes I would be interested Nathan and checked on a place last week here in Grand Rapids. They did not go to that level though. I have a 1000C Tranny for my project. Do you send them the disassembled parts or do they take care of that also?

I'm going to send them everything disassembled. They will take the gears off the shaft but I want to keep costs down as much as I can. Who every wants this done can send me everything disassembled or send me all the shafts and I'll take them apart before I send them out. Like I said, I'd like to send them "batches" at a time.

Take everything apart. EVERYTHING. It's worth while too. You'll never ride anything that you'll be able to compare the transmission to. Ive done probably a dozen on the full race MX engines I've done and it's worth it. One of the CRF450 engines I did (big bore+ stroker to 511cc) with ported head, giant cam, detailed carb etc..this thing was FAST, really fast, would shift under full power WITHOUT pulling in the clutch or killing the engine. I don't know exactly how much power that thing made, but it'd stay next to my 1100 to about 60mph. Cool

Some guys are doing the valve springs now too. Must be for oil shedding, but, they're doing it. But I need to find a new guy because the guy I was using went MIA. He worked for a Top Fuel team someplace in AZ. but his website is gone and nobody answers the phone any longer.

I've heard of impregnating valve springs with lubricant too.

Depending on the valve spring it should relieve stress lessening fatigue. Sooner springs are already done to a high standard and messing with them will hurt more than help. I was actually going to ask about springs next time I talk to my rep.

I do my springs (single and very small, 30-32 lb) and get more consistent readings afterwards. No coating is applied and the current oil supply provides ample cooling so coatings are of little benefit.

I talked to my vendor and if I can get at least three transmissions the price will be $262/ea . They keep everything separate and color coded so you won't get someone else's gears. He's also working on prices for valve springs, cams, crank and rods for me so when I get those numbers I'll post everything in the for sale section in a new thread. Let me know if you have something you want done!

I'm pretty much in the dark, other than general knowledge, about transmissions BUT a great machanic I know built some top line class C and motocross bikes and he did magic on transmissions he called "preloading" Anybody know what that is?
