So, some time ago (turns out around 2004) my little brother gave me a box of bits that he alleged was a 1980 CB900F. He knew I had one back in the day, and wanted all this stuff gone, so he gave it all to me. I got it all back together without too much drama, and some help from this mighty forum, and spent the next 13 years riding it around, restoring it, riding it, re-doing it, riding it, re-painting it and riding it. It went through about five iterations in the end. Each one a bit better than the last.
Started like this just to get it back on the road:
then restored to this:
then this:
then this:
And after a few modifications and a rebuilt 985 motor, ended up like this:
Anyway, long story short, I recently decided to return the bike to my generous little brother, who had been sans-motorcycle for some time. I have a shed full of bikes, and need the space anyway I had planned for it to be a complete surprise, and that's how it worked out. After reassuring him I wasn't about to drop off the face of the earth, he reluctantly accepted the offer (to be fair, it was not a totally unreasonable position for him to take). I'll give him a while to acclimatise to bikes again, and then look forward to riding with him and my other brother again.
Long story here: The Evolution of a CB900FA
and here: The Evolution of a CB900FA part 2 and 3
... and here (I told you it was a long story The Evolution of a CB900FA part 4
I need to amend my signature now |

WOW!
Usually, the only thing older brothers give younger brothers is:
A HARD TIME!
I think what you did was GREAT! |

Are the bodywork all different or do you like the smell of fresh paint?
Just a gorgeous bike. |

Still got all the panel sets other than the original dark grey. Put too much effort in each to scrub it all off |

Wow. Apart from the amazing brotherly gesture of returning the box of parts back to your brother in the grand configuration that you did, you did that classic beauty total justice in every one of the iterations. I'm still trying to decide which one I like best. They're all lovely. Very nice work mate. |
