Update:
I have been in rehab hospital for 2 weeks. I am learning to walk and take care of myself. I cannot eat enough solid food. For them to release me. It either
tastes bad or I just cannot hold it down.
I have a 5" wound in my belly that needs to be repacked 3 times week. I am not sure if I will get back to work this year.
Next step for me is to eat enough solid food to go home.
I appreciate everyone's support and concern.
I am cancer free and thankful for that. I need to be able to eat though before I can go home.

Dave, the last surgery my Dad had he had the same problem. What helped him "get a taste" for food again was sucking on lemons and eating lemonhead candy. The Dr. recommended it to wake up his taste buds. Worth a shot. Dad said everything tasted like cardboard. Praying for you bud. |

Dave, I had GI surgery 4 years ago to remove a tumor, definitely unpleasant, and restarting your GI tract is no laughing matter as you know. I also have a good friend that was battling a blood cancer, which they did beat back with chemo and radiation, but one side effect of the chemo was that everything tasted like chewing tinfoil to him and he could not make himself eat - it made him nauseous to try. He was wasting, got down to 120 pounds, and we were all deeply concerned.
At that time I was already retired from recreational drugs but thankfully I had some friends that were not. I scrounged up a half-ounce of marijuana, my wife cooked up some cannabutter and we used that to make him a couple of batches of brownies. Cut them up into 1 inch squares, did eat a few to get an idea of the potency (took one for the team ), and then gave them to him. He found the right dosage for himself and did enjoy them, and they elevated his mood which was really needed. They also did indeed give him some good old-fashioned munchies, and he said it was a big help in jump-starting his appetite.
Long story short he turned the corner and put the weight back on, and completed his recovery. It might be worth a try for you too.
Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.

Hoping you had a nice week, I wish you were closer so we could bring the ride to you and hope that exhaust noise and fumes, Yingling beer, and the world famous NE ride parking lot cuisine would help get your appetite back. |

Update
Still not keeping much down. Doctor is trying medication for nausea and reflux. I need to turn the corner on this. I tried the Lemmon drops and it does work to bring back real tastes. Maybe need some brownies next. 😉

There is always Marinol, keep at it and I'm sure you will get it your appetite, strength, and stamina all back in time to move the white stuff around the driveway. |

All,
Looks like 1 more week in rehab at most. Still have no appetite and need to get off the IV feeding tubes. Today was a possibility but I think it will be pushed back to next week.
Thanks for the positive waves guys!!!!!

Please get hooked on the solid food ASAP since we will end up spending this weekend in Saratoga Springs trying to outdo each other with sympathy feedings using a beer bong.
Hoping this is the last week at rehab - we will have a toast for your quick recovery this weekend in the parking lot. |
