Hello All...

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Chris and I recently bought a Honda CB900f, the american 1982 version. It is in rough shape, with many of the parts switched out or missing. The electrics are a shambles, the tires flat, the wheels cobwebby. As I was checking valve clearances today I found the stator to be rusty? and the rotor with some corrosion. The good things are that the engine turns freely, Ive cleaned the carbs to sparkly, and rejetted for what I anticipate my air intake and exhaust setup to be, and Im prepared to rebuild whatever on the bike needs rebuilding. Pictures at this point would be just too depressing, but as I get the components into place, I will post some. Im writing this really so you know where Im coming from when I start to ask really specific questions. Thanks, and Im a big fan of the site already, as many questions Ive had have been answered just by reading older posts.

Welcome aboard Chris....Good luck on the restoration...We'll help you out as you go along with this...It's not as daunting as it may seem....Just be patient and take it step by step and it'll come back to life....If you haven't yet, it's a good idea to print out the Factory Service Manual from the Technical Documents section and familiarize yourself with it....

Thanx, Wayne. I have the service manual downloaded, and the clymer and haynes in book form. I also have a monthly schedule that I set up, with each month corresponding to a system on the bike. May was carburetor, June is engine, july electronics etc. Im continuously excited and fascinated by the the systems that my wrenching opens up, and Im trying to understand each part as I explore it. Needless to say, this is my first build; my daily rider was cherry when I bought it, and I do the regular maintenance, but Id never seen the inside of a carburetor before last month, and it was great to figure out how to disassemble it, clean it, learn how it works and put it all back together again

Yeah, don't be bashful on the "Before" pictures. It makes the "After" that much sweeter! Always happy to see these bikes resurrected!

Thank you all for the welcome! Ill take some pictures this weekend and post them. And Silversurfer, it is that bad. Many of the parts were taken off by a previous person who I can only guess was undecided about the direction of his "cafe" build. Ive found a bunch of parts on ebay so far, but much of the various systems are disconnected of torn apart or missing. I work on replacing or rebuilding one thing at a time.

I bought a fairly whole bike about 6 years ago - in boxes.

It's still in my garage. It has parts for a 913CC build - carillo rods, Falicon crank, and I've collected almost 5 extra engine cases *randomly* over time.

Now that was just damn funny!!! "...a fairly whole bike - in boxes." Hahahaha.....Interesting too how those "boxes" in the garage have a tendancy to multiply quickly.

All too true, Wayne. I save my ebay and amazon boxes and they have suddenly filled with rebuild kits and parts and screws and nuts and bolts and jets...well, you get the idea. Everything is labelled and I have pictures taken to reference what goes where, but the full boxes have made me a little nervous!
