First four pics are of Bob Pressler, a close friend and his bike.

Bob rode for Montgomeryville Cycle Center and the PVR on the leg of his leathers stood for Pickering Valley Roadracers, the team he raced with. They were very active from 1976 to 1985 competing and winning National Number one plates, and endurance events like the 30 Hours of Rockingham in 1979 and 1980. A 30 hour long endurance race run by WERA at North Carolina Motor Speedway (Rockingham)

Picture number 6 riders are as follows from left to right: Ron Pierce, Roberto Pietri, Steve McGlaughlin, Frederick (Freddie) Burdett Spencer.

Number 43 is of course Mike Baldwin, from Darien, CT.

The number 88 bike is Pietri's either race or backup bike.

Pic number 11 is Pietri at Road Atlanta in 1980 pictured with Merlyn Plumlee (holding bike on right), and Todd Shuster, back to camera.

Pic number 12 is Pietri being pushed off after a pit stop at the 1980 AFM 6 Hour at Ontario Motor Speedway (now gone) in California.
The ultra wide fuel tank with dry brake refueling port in front was made of aluminum with internal baffles to prevent the fuel (almost 9 gallons!) from sloshing under accell/decel .

HTH!

I was going through some pictures and found this one of me back from 1983 I think? This was right before we cut the frame and went to the 16" front wheel.

Bassani and Hunziker Cycle (a large Honda Dealer now Honda of Houston) were my main sponsors, but I got a bunch of help from PolyDyn (high performance coatings) and products from Dyna, ND and Arai helmets. When I could make it I, would have my bike in the Bassani booth at the Dealer shows. Show time was fun time…LMAO!

BUMP as this needs to be seen by the noobies.

If anyone has any pictures from 83 or 84 with the VF750F Interceptor (especially with Fred Merkel?) I need them hopefully while leaned over in a turn.
I need pictures for my business cards and decals.

Thanks Jim

Toddk, Simply Yes! By cutting an inch out of the frame and tucking the head in a degree it turned in quicker and had more weight on the front tire. Very neutral in the corner on the gas but if you chopped the throttle fast like mid corner it would stand up a little. I always thought that was better than dropping into the turn on a throttle chop. The one bad thing was I lost some ground clearance while tipped over and would drag a stock Bassani Superbike pipe….but Darryl hand bend a new pipe for me that eliminated that problem.

Interesting... I actually like the opposite - chop the throttle and turn too far in so you need to feed more throttle in to get back 'on line'... hmmm.... but then, I'm an 18" wheel kinda guy! Smile

Yea Dennis I know I might be in the minority but I guess if you know what will happen you know how to deal with it. The first time I got into that situation I had a guy come into a corner, I was in, too hot and turned to my inside forcing me to chop the throttle. If the bike would have fell into the turn I would have hit him. The bike picked up a little giving him enough room not to crash into me and I motored away happy.

Just forget the 16 inch deal for the moment as there aren't any tires for them to speak of and you can't anyway in in your class. Dennis you will get a shock the day you try a 17 inch set-up at 26 degrees and 95 -100mm trail (I suspect you would prefer 100 initially ) the bike will turn so quick and still be neutral as far as power on or "chopping throttle" is concerned. I've said this before and it not going to change anytime soon. For these period bikes and conventional forks this is very much a huge improvement and whatever you riding style and preferences this will improve the performance.

You can still get 16" front race tires but they are not easy to come by. The OD on the 16s are very close to the 17s just have bigger sidewalls. The shorter sidewall gives the 17 front a more stable platform to work with.
