Can anyone suggest what would be causing the gap between the brake light and the plastic surround? (See photos) It doesn't look like anything is fowling and I can't think of what would be causing it...

My guess from the picture is that the tail light bracket is bolted directly to the fender without the rubber spacers which are about the same length as your gap in the pictures. Close to 1" |

Sure Mate there are 4 and they have a hex on both ends incorporating the mounting studs that fits into a hex molded in the outer fender. With the cowl off and bracket removed you'll see what I'm talking about. But I'll bet that's your problem mate..... |

If that is indeed the problem, those rubbers are still available from Honda......or maybe one of your mates down there has some as they are kind of pricey for what they are. |

Mine from the day bike was new was lopsided at that gap. It bothered me enough that I simply jacked up one side of the seat by gluing a thick washer right under one of the rear sucker feet that seat sits on at back. It was then perfectly even at least. |

The increase in the gap can also be caused by using an aftermarket seat like a Corbin Gunfighter. The seat pan is different for the Corbin and the rubber pads are different. The OEM seat attachment hardware bolts to the Corbin no problem, but the design of the seat and pan make many of them sit higher above the tail ight assembly, at least in my experiance with them. You maybe can see the gap in the attached picture?

If your bike is a 900, the spacers are the same as the two rubber mounts for the oil cooler. There are plenty of vendors on eBay etc that sell similar rubber isolation mounts for much less than the original part. |

And you can look for your missing tail cowl stoppers while you are at it to it won't bang on your newly raised tail light:

Maybe someone has a used pair laying around since I believe they are NLA. |

McMaster-Carr sell similar, but not identical, spacers which will work. Much better price than OEM. |

Have same problem on my 1100. I figure it's due to a slightly bent seat pan (OEM) or maybe the taillight mounting is crooked? |
