So, the fact that it was "converted" from a Prolink suspension set-up means it wasn't a late 70s CBX, but an early 80s. And it didn't have 105hp, but "only" 100.
Still not my cup of tea. I have seen better looking CBX customs.

You'd think if someone was desperate to fcuk over a bike, they'd either use something less significant, or use some imagination on it, instead of just using parts that where laying around.

If people must do this, then USE SOME IMAGINATION! This particularly applies to people doing Cafe things. I've no problem with customization, as long as its not just throwing random parts together ...

About a year ago I was in an industrial part of town and I noticed a 79-80 CBX sitting behind of of the shops,neglected. I walked over and asked about the bike and the shop owner stated he was going to make it a rat bike whatever that is. Didn't sound good.

I cant believe that when they were done with it they stood back and said Yeah... That looks great. The tank is hideous. It doesn't work with the lines at all. I'm not a fan of other stuff on it either but if they at least kept the tank or used the 900 tank it wouldn't make me want to puke so bad. I am a fan of modernizing these and our bikes. Like the sanctuary ones especially. But not this one. Head Banger

Some of the work on that bike is neat but that nuclear powered paint job is way too much for my tastes. Plus that bike commits the ultimate naked bike sin to me, twin headlamps make a bike look bug-eyed to me. Like an overgrown insect. They kill a bike for me every time. I don't even care for the big Suzuki headlamps that some people are so fond of.

But put put a big headlamp on a big dirtbike and visions of Baja start dancing in my head. Style is a very subjective thing.

everyone to their own, there's the magic - for me - the original CBX is a very tough one to improve upon cosmetically - silver or red ( black doesn't quite hit the spot), even a stepped seat or a 6 into 1 or 6 into 6 pipe diminishes the style, weirdly a well thought out set of engine protectors does work - that's about it

Spoke to the owner of that bike, he has a few CBX's and a RC in bits

He was most interested in my RC to see what a complete one looked like

Engine is 1233cc with CR carbs, Suzuki pistons, alloy conrods and over 140 rwhp and

Sounded very crisp on start up

That bike is butt ugly and the Sportie/Girlie tank just adds insult to injury. The parts are worth more than the whole - I hope the owner doesn't have lot of money into this cuz he ain't never getting it back. Puke

I'm looking for an RC or RD front end, yokes and forks at a minimum. I've got an RC project, and was going to use a VF1000R front end, with a 17" CBR wheel, but I'm thinking it would be better to do it standard, but since I've assembled this from bits, I don't have those bits ...

I don't know what the difference in detail is, but the upper bridge for the RC is the same as for the 1981/82 CBX Prolink, while the RD upper is unique R. It may be the same as F, though.
Lower bridge is unique R and the same for both models. Probably because the of the stem.
Fork assemblies and fork lowers have different part numbers for C and D.
I have a complete R front end, but shipping to the UK would probably be cost prohibitive. Shipping anything from the US has become a costly venture.
And I really don't know the unit I have is C or D. I would have to take a closer look.
The VF front end is a nice way to go. You could bore out 39mm yokes to 41mm and maybe use 11F yokes, if they are easier to come by.

Thanks for this. I too think shipping anything big and heavy from the US would be prohibitive ...! I have everything I need to do at least three different set ups for the front with appropriate yokes, VF1000R 41mm forks, CB900 39mm forks, CBR 41mm forks - with a mix of front wheels, although all will need a stem making, which isn't a problem. If I can't get a complete RC or RD front (I think the differences are paint finish?) then I'll revert to one of these options ... There is a complete RC front end (forks and yokes) on ebay UK, but its nearly £500 and that's more than I can stomach at the moment ...

Hi Max.

The RC and RD forks are both finished in the same Monza red paint finish, (which means the candy red paint on the RD front guard doesn't match the forks!).
The only significant difference I can see in the forks is the RD got the rebound adjustment on it like the 1100FD has.

No one really wants an 81/82 Prolink, not now or then, which is why Honda gave them away.
