Jebby Maybe see what the price for 2 is . Complete with him buying the decals . I'll furnish him with a NOS sidecover for paint match , but of course want it back intact . Mark didn't get the red correct because he was furnished a repainted sidecover . He had that set still there when I picked mine up . He is only about 2 hrs from me . Dale

I heard back from Mark at CCR and he is no longer painting.

Maybe we need a list of reputable painters to go withe list of machinists.

Mark painted my bike, with decals and it came out amazing. He even did some body work for free. $850 for everything shipped. To bad he doesn't paint anymore...I wonder what pissed him off...hmmmm.

Mark and Paul are a couple of the nicest, most courteous guys I've dealt with since I started restoring bikes. My relationship with them goes back at least 6 years to when they painted my first set of bodywork for a CB360T. Then they did the 750F set at the top of this thread, then my 1100F bodywork, and finally, Mark repaired and repainted my Interceptor's tank last spring and made it look flawless.

They never claimed to be concourse quality painters and even though most of us love their work, they were always modest about it and Mark often told me that he was constantly striving to improve. Let's face it - a set of 1100F bodywork would have cost a lot more than the $1100 that I paid if you wanted it to be perfect, concourse quality in every way. And to set the record straight, I was the person who sent a red side cover to them use as a paint guide. The bodywork on my bike was so badly faded everywhere that there was no way for them to get an accurate scan. The cover that I sent them was very close to stock - not perfect, but I liked it and it was what I wanted. When I got my bodywork back, I was thrilled beyond belief with how it came out. Now anyone else that had them do the same bodywork should have gone in there with their own color panel, a good cover, or whatever they felt was the most accurate. To blame them for getting the color wrong for using MY cover is unfair. If you want something done a specific way, you have to provide the details and specifications. The fact that there are no real color codes for these pearl and candy colors makes it a challenge.

I remember getting a call from Mark one evening not long after he finished my 1100F bodywork. He was clearly upset because a customer had just left his shop after yelling at him and making a fuss about the red not being perfect. He said that between the cost of the paints, the decals, and all the work involved, the money he made doing 1100F bodywork wasn't worth it, especially after the way he had just been treated. We spoke for a while and I told him that no matter how good a job you do, there's always going to be someone out there that you can't make happy. I believe that this unfortunate customer encounter was the beginning of the end as far as restoring parts for guys like us.

I keep in touch with Mark and these days he and Paul spend most of their free time restoring SOHC's and 70's bikes, then flipping them. I know that both of them have young families and each work at least another full time job.

It's too bad that they're not doing this work any more because it was well worth it to me to have a nice job done for a fair price, and in the process I got to deal with a couple of great human beings.

Let make it clear , I was the customer that picked up my body work from Mark evidently that day , BUT I never yelled at him . I never complained about the quality of his work but was a little upset that the color was not a good match to stock . The paint on the sidecover does not match the red from CB Decals . Which color is correct ??? Tom, the cover you supplied was a repaint and had no decals on it . He told me it was a NOS cover which I new it wasn't . They never came from the factory that way . I expect he would buy a full set of decals for the bodywork but he did not get the safety warning decals , which he gave me a credit for and I had to order them . I was happy enough that I wanted him to do a couple more sets . I delivered the body work to him and picked it up and paid a little more than Tom did .
