Nice job Bob in helping Glenda out.
Here's a tip I came up with and have used with great success on many CBX carb rebuilds now, using matches to help join individual pairs of carbs together. Getting the fork for the synchronisation adjuster in between the two washers can be a real PITA, but using this approach makes it a piece of cake.
Pics below tell the story.
First trim a couple of short pieces about 5-7 mm long from the fattest, squarest matches you can find in the box.
OK, now you get where I am going with this......
Matches in place and ready for mating carb to be placed into position....
and now ready for the gentle push together......
As the carbs are pushed together, the matches are pushed out backwards from between the washers and fall out onto the bench.
Hope this helps you out some Bob. As they say in the classics, one good turn deserves another....
Enjoy!
Cheers..Tony |

thanks Tony, but I've got a ton of homemade tools
I've collected over the last 30 years or so. I also
have done a bunch of CBX carbs ! thanks for the match
tip though ! Glenda's carbs are about 85% done now
and she should have them back early this coming week.
My reward : the joy of doing this for her, a deserving
soul by any measure. |

HI CARBS !!
Bobcat is underway on Clara B's Carburetor Cure !!!
(Bob might be groaning about now: He wants no credit until she's running, so let's chalk this headline of mine up to Hope and the love of Alliteration). |

Hey folks !
Success. Happiness. Joy. Caution. Muscle. Happiness.
Emotions you'll find beaming out from this part of western Montana from the woman on Clara B.
We got 'er running. Not perfect. But I have ridden her pretty much every day since we got 'er going.
I want to get riding now ! But I have to post and share and say THANK YOU, Bobcat (and his amazing wife Gay) and CBX Larry and you all who have cheered me on.
More details to come. For now. Photos.
========
We join the story with the return of Clara B's carbs from Texas !

Yes, I'm sooo excited.
The carbs are beautiful and the bike is running like a top !
My first ride on her back from the shop was wonderful, and I've been riding her as much as time and weather allow.
Now I'm focusing on her prior issue with the clutch, I think, it is. Still in testing mode. I'm going to figure out the proper question to ask Bobcat, who has been sooo helpful.
My friend helping with the bike, who got her running, was very impressed with the carbs. And he's helping me diagnose this other bug, but the carbs....
They're beautiful.
I am a happy camper !
Back soon ... as the adventure continues ! |

I was revisiting some past experiences and came across
this. what a trip ! that was a fun, rewarding experience.
we still keep in touch from time to time but now it has been
a while since last contact. I hope all is well.
I really miss Larry (CBXdog) rip. he was such a great
guy. such a shame his fate. I wish someone would
repost the site's tribute to him. meanwhile I will see if
I can wake up Glenda. "you have a funny accent, where
are you from ?" |
