Near the end of this, 'micahgc' mentions that he has repurposed one from a KLX80.
I understand it's not the same swingarm, but they're not that different, either. Might be worth a look.
In related news, I would REALLY like to see how your 1100 is coming along. Your 900 was one of the bikes that got me back into this whole mess.
Cheers from Toronto. |

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, the issue is to mount the slider on the swingarm. Almost anything could potentially be adapted but I was wondering what other members having done that conversion chose to do.
Will post on the 1100 as soon as it is ready, after the chain slider is made and installed But it's almost final now. As always in these projects, the first and the last 10% are the longest.
Glad that the 900 inspired you. I'm sad it's been sitting in my garage in France for 3 years with no one riding it... miss it!
Cheers! |

A few years ago I had seen a chain slider made from teflon. I think it worked very well as he made it from 3 pieces; top, bottom and the part that wrapped around the front of the swingarm pivot.
I think it would work with just a top piece and possibly a bottom if done with some thought. |

Yep, I was thinking of a two part assembly as well: one metal plate holder attached to the tabs already on the swingarm (see below) and that wraps around and under the pivot of the swingarm, and one teflon piece mounted on the metal holder.

I just did this on a Metmachex swingarm.
I know that you wanted for a GS arm but this set up is close and very easy.
Teflon
Cut with a jig saw.
I used a heat gun while wrapping it around the pivot and then clamped it and heated it some more.
The arm had no real mounting points and was too thin IMO to tap.
I made this threaded drop in's and welded them in the arm.
Works like a charm.
Peace, Jim |

Nice Jim! I might copy that for my blackbird swingarm (if you dont mind ). I have a piece of HMP (I think, high molecular plastic or something ) jb welded on right now. Been bouncing ideas around in my head (there's alot of room) and your idea is perfect. Did you think about nutserts instead of the welded inserts you machined? That is what I will probably use. Of course I don't have the machines or a tig welder handy either . |
