Hi folks !
Hope this spring 2014 finds you well.
Me, not so much. My bartering mechanic friend got the bike back together a couple weeks ago and he thought she sounded okay with the new jetting / info you all provided, but then she started leaking fuel from the #4 carb, I think he said.
The season is now upon us and he's swamped and I have no ride. I can't go another summer without a bike. I don't know what to do. Still in the position of wanting Clara B to run, but I also understand I cannot maintain her and that she's no one's priority but mine.
Anyway, not to sound too pitiful. I did search for a part 16027-425-671 from local dealer. No luck. So now it's an 0 ring I need, and it means a lot of work going back into the engine, with no guarantees of success. I have been tasked with doing as much of the work to get back in as I can. I want to do this yesterday. Ha.
But really I'm wondering -- how do I do this ? Should I part her out and hope I can get the cash together this summer for a new bike ? Should I bother one of my friends to help me get to the 0 ring ? Does it make any sense to invest in carbs for a bike so old that I cannot maintain myself ? Or should I buy something newer (given I somehow find some funds for another new-to-me bike)?
I know that's a lot of questions. I thank you for whatever advice / thoughts you feel like sharing.
PS Those who don't know my story -- ClaraB is a 1979 CB750. I got her when my mate Matt was still alive. He had a CB1100f and was a member of this forum before his death the summer of 2006 in a motorcycle accident. Knowledgeable guy who's proven irreplaceable. I miss him. He taught me to ride safe, and infected me with this love of motorcycling that is making my life a little crazy now that I don't have a running ride.
Figure a few of you might be able to relate ?
THANKS AGAIN.
Glenda

Welcome back Glenda,,
Looks like the part is a fuel joint o ring which is leaking ? 16027-425-671
May be easier - less labor intensive to find a replacement set of carbs rather than disassembling the carb rack to replace a few o rings.
Let me look in my parts stash, I may have a set of carbs for you |

Ah...the fuel joint O-ring.....sitting makes them shrink and brittle....
Randakk sells a kit that has these O-rings....it is pricey...but it also has all of the other seals that will
potentially go bad on your carbs...
They are made of a better material called Viton. They will last 10X longer than the original equipment.
The O-ring is not horrible to change....from the diagram you can see how it comes apart.....but I don't know
how technical you are as you said you want to do it yourself.
Larry is looking for carbs for you...he has a lot of nice stash....that is one way out.
Myself, The Fox, or Mike Nixon could go through the carbs for you.....I am backed up a bit...PM "The Fox"...he does
good work. Mike is a legend....if you send them to him....they will be perfect. Downside is some waiting.
Why am I saying all of this? If one seal is leaking...eventually they all will.
Should you get a new bike? Nah....I don't believe you would like it as much. Then, how new is new?...10 year old bikes have problems too.
From what I remember it has a new motor...and the recommended maintenance was done at that time so I would fix the carbs and ride
Best,
Jebby |

Hi glenda,
Just seeing your name on the site puts a smile on my face. I agree with Jebby. He should maybe have added JJam to the list as well.
I think you'd miss her.

A leaking fuel rail isn't too bad. As Jebby said, if you get the rebuild kit there are several of us who can setup the carbs for you if this isn't something you want to take on. Splitting the carbs isn't too bad. A good set of needle nosed pliers help they synch screw washers get back in place upon assembly. |

Hi Glenda. Nice to see you post.
I haven't heard from Rob Tabish in some time, but I think you should probably have his number. Maybe he can help or knows someone local to you that can help you. I'm pretty sure Sean Grier (member sgrier) has those o-rings in stock for cheap, he's in Seattle, but can send them in days. I'm in touch with Sean often on other sites. PM me if you'd like some help. |

Hi folks !! I'm back. Sorry for the note and then the disappearing act. I went into a bit of a funk ! Just so overwhelming and this week has a couple of sad anniversaries, including Matt's birthday. But I'm back. I thought the High Speed Wobbles were behind me, but that's the thing about Grief. It sneaks back up on you and kicks you when you're down, and the lack of a bike is a downer.
You guys are definitely an Upper ! I cannot tell you how much it makes my heart smile to think that you all are out there !
I can do this.
Again, sorry for the delay. I'll be back real soon this time.
I can do this !! |

Yahooooo !! Bobcat has Clara B's carbs. He kindly sent me a photo of the carbs on his work bench surrounded by all the important tools of the job. So happy to have such an expert working on her. Tee Hee (see picture below). Isn't this wonderful (' ')
Now I gotta figure out how to upload the photo.
Seriously, thank you so much Bob ! |

if anybody can rebuild a set of carbs to perfection, Bob can. I know, he has done it for me. Glenda, you'll get better than new carbs back from Bob. Good luck with your bike. |
