V&H Megaphone came yesterday

I put it on this morning, boy it sure looks nice! Can't wait to fire her up and sync the carbs. I painted the motor except for the clutch cover and oil filter cover, those will be coming off once I can warm her up to drain the oil. I also replaced my air cutoffs. Thanks Ray for the idea to use needlenose pliers instead of tearing the carb bank apart. It took me about 30 minutes that way. The one time I pulled the carbs apart it took me about 2 hours, heh.

I know.

I have one on one of my 11s and my neighbor has one on his 80 CB750F.
When we fire them up together in the underground garage, the sound is overwhelming.

Ya, I was in my work garage. It's all concrete ,even the roof. Can't wait to sync the carbs and ride her. Amazingly it's supposed to be 57 degrees tomorrow, so maybe I'll get my wish.

Maybe you will ride her around and make noise in the neighborhood and wake the dead in the cemetary down the road from you.

V&H systems are around $250

It was $276 delivered and worth every penny!! OMG is it loud, I took it for a ride last night in the rain and the echo off the houses was amazing. I'm sure that's not quite the word the people IN the houses were thinking of, but it worked for me! Razz

When I brought my loud 1100F home from the shop the other day and was pulling into the garage, my Apt manager and his boss {the building owner} were in the garage talking, so I nodded at them and proceeded to rev the piss out of my "blue", V&H megaphone equipped, CB1100F until they covered their ears and shook their heads in submission. Twisted Evil

You could call it loud, but that is an understatement.

Ok, now MY story on V & H headers.....

Looked kool, sounded great, good price. Road it for 1 1/2 years until the number 1 down tube weld @ the collector BROKE!!! Shocked

60 miles from home. Sounded like a sick tractor, or a powerfull Harley, Twisted Evil

until I got her home. Promptly pulled her off, traded for Stouts Kerker, who got it rewelded and mounted it on the Rat bike Luke now enjoys. Was NOT impressed with V & Hs quality of welds or their after sale service, thats for sure. They wouldnt do anything about it. No credit, no discount on a new pipe nor a decent repair price.

Kerker is da life for me..I tell you what.......I hope you have better luck then I did.....I also noticed the Kerker header downtubes appear to be a bit larger then the V & Hs.....go figure...or the steel tubing is thicker...

All I know is that it was mid sixties here to day, which NEVER happens in Rochester in January. So I road around during work going to meetings and when I went downtown, it was SOOOO DAMN LOUD that I was just waiting to get pulled over. I liiiiiked it!

Hopefully you just got a bad one, it happens in everything manufactured. It just sucks that they wouldn't do anything about it.

The bottom line is the vibration caused by the exhaust tuning will break a good exhaust system.

On the SOHC Daytona 750 back in like 1968 had pieces of rod tack welded to the tubing. That way when it broke atleast the tubing pieces would still be held in location.

The welding causes a metal cahnge that usually breaks right next to the weld. In other words the weld does not break,the parent metal next to the weld breaks.

The next problem is the megaphone section is mounted soild to the foot spud area and the motor is mounted in rubber.

I have some really special full pyramid(called merge collector now) Denco race only systems. They are black pipe so no chemical attack by the chrome and have been welded back together many times. It is the sharp sound,compared to the "dead" sound of a poor design,that causes the vibration that destroys the exhaust system.

Knock on wood, I've had mine for 4 years and it's still OK. It does sound wicked when the packing gets burnt out!
