I couldn't help myself, with a 5 day ride coming up this week, I took melchiro's advice and uncorked the MAC muffler. Not finished yet but that was one heck of a restriction in there.

Love it! Love the controls, switches, instruments and lights! You kept all the flavor of a 30 year old motorcycle and made it a whole lot more fun to abuse! Cant beat that! Cool

I don't know if you have mentioned it already, but, what exhaust pipe are you using?

That looks fantastic.

Question - in your picture of it when you first got it, it was missing the left side panel. What did you do for a replacement? Were you able to source a used one or did you paint and decal one to match?

aedavis, I was fortunate that the side panel was there, but with 2 broken tabs. I took it off for the trip home, then in time machined up 2 replacement tabs and epoxied them to the cover. They're holding up just fine.

Overall this project has not been too costly. I'm fortunate to work in a very well equipped facility that has everything from CNC lathes & mills, fabrication tooling, welding equipment all the way to a full carbon shop. I have access to basically everything, or for a favor can get most things done. Actually I'm the design engineer for a larger Indycar team. Yes, most fortunate!!!!!

Oh, the opened up exhaust goes on tonight................... Now lets go ride.

Please share with us how you were able to get the 36mm Radial Flat slide mikunis to fit properly??

It's my understanding that re-spacing the carbs leaves the stock "actuator" rod/arm too short to function properly.

How were you able to overcome that issue?

CBX1260. Mine are 34mm RS Mukini's.

Basically I lucked out! There is a place here in Indy called cycle-re-cycle 2. The owner, Rob, is very knowledgeable on these bikes and had recently purchased a set of used Mukini's set-up for the CB's spacing. He then sold that set and 'swapped' the customized 10mm rod out for a standard rod to suit that customers needs...... you following!!!! Along I come and purchase a new set of Mukini's, I purchase the customized rod and swap it out for my standard one. Whew.

So, the cusomized rod. I looked very carfully and find it hard to believe it wasn't a 'factory' optional rod. Either that or it had been very professionally made. The swap-out although fiddly went very well, basically just push one rod through with the other, then re-do fuel lines. You may want to inquire if an extra long rod is offered. I did have to remake the rail mounts front and rear, and the stock petcock becomes a rather tight fit when taking the tank on and off. I do not recall right now what the final spacing is, however if you're really interested could measure for you................ when I get back from a riding trip in which I leave in the early AM.

The intake boots. I used the GS1000 units that many others have used.

I will say, I am no carb expert at all and look forward to having them dialed in by someone that knows what they're doing.

Overall I must say I'm really happy the way the entire carb replacement went. Again, I think I lucked out.

You can buy re-spacing kits from Topham. The kits come with throttle rod, choke rod, rails and all the bits you need.

Thought I'd give an update guys.

I did get the exhaust finished before leaving on my trip. (will take a picture when I get a chance) Basically I did as was suggested and ran a 2" perforated pipe straight through the MAC muffler. The results were wonderful and the sound awesome.

Oh, and the bike ran amazingly well on the trip. See the pic, I'm sure you can guess where we were!

The picture was taken on Deals Gap in Tennessee (318 turns in 11 miles). There's like 3 photography companies that sit in various corners and take pictures all day long of all the bikes/cars and whatever going past. They then upload them and you get to buy them from their web sites.

Peter you have produced an exceptional bike, I especially like your headlight / numberplate setup. The way you cleaned up the gauges and triple tree area looks very clean and uncluttered. I also like the front guard............ Very very nice.

Even though the bike that is on the front page is a work of art, I think yours is right up there, and in motion..... nice picture.

Interested to know how effective your head lights are? I think they look trick!

Couple of pics of the finished exhaust.

2" perforated tube straight through with an aluminum cap. Also moved the mount that bolts to the side plates.

Also was able to tuck the entire muffler up a little for ground clearance. Fun, Fun.
