A good friend of mine (and many) recently did a remarkable thing. Not too long after I met him, George was diagnosed with colon cancer. This was his second battle with cancer (prostate the first time) and through it all he fought with more strength and dignity than I ever could. He's cancer-free now and loves riding his Ducati Monster 696 whenever he can. He's a very skilled, smooth, and safe rider. If someone goes down or breaks down on a ride he's always the first volunteer to end his ride, go home, and come back with his trailer. When I needed a truck and trailer to go pick up my new 750 he volunteered in a heartbeat and was genuinely happy to spend his Saturday afternoon helping me out. Just an all around great guy, loved by many.
Anyway, on to the remarkable part. He had heard about someone who, after beating cancer, walked all the way across Deals Gap. This inspired him to do the same in hopes that maybe it would show someone who was in a situation similar to the one he'd been in what can be accomplished by just plain refusing to give up. He started training last October at his local walking track and eventually movied on to walking up and down hills near his home. I think it would be an accomplishment for anyone to be able to walk 14 miles through the mountains of TN/NC (the actual full length of Deals Gap, not the 11 miles so popularly referred to), but what he did was astounding. He woke up at 5:30 last Saturday morning at the resort, walked to Fugitive Dam and back, then ate breakfast. After that he walked north all the way to Tabcat Bridge. Being the badass he is, he then turned around and walked all the way back to the resort as the ultimate F-U to cancer. Did I mention he's pushing 60 yrs of age now? I can only pray to have as much enthusiasm for life as he does when I'm his age.
So, now to the favor part. The public votes on their favorite photos and in the end the person with the most votes gets a 24"x36" poster of his/her photo. If you would be so kind as to take a few seconds of your day to vote for him (he's about halfway down the page, on the left in a hi-viz green t-shirt, the only pedestrian on the page), it would be a great favor to a great friend. I'm hoping he'll have that print on the wall of his garage as a momento of what a remarkable thing he did to inspire others. Thank you.

Did a new week start? Larry's friend is back to 0 and the kid is at 5000?!
I take that back.
I hit refresh and his votes and the votes of the guy touching the pavement get wiped out? |

The guy who walked the Dragon and the kid who was dragging his knuckles both were found to have bots posting votes for them and were DQ'ed. Theperson in charge of the site found out about the story behind the guy who walked and sent him a poster anyhow. Life is good sometimes. Thanks to all who voted for him. |

Hi,
I don’t know exactly what’s happening, but this person’s votes are getting deleted. George in the yellow shirt – no motorcycle.
Below was posted by an acquaintance on a motorcycle forum.
