Guys,
I've been waiting for the day when I would be able to say this.
After almost two years of work, my CB900F is on the road, running well and I am a happy guy! Here's a few photos if you will allow me to indulge myself:
I've got tons more pictures, but you get the idea... Basically, a stock 900F - with a few touches of my own. The bike was taken down to the frame and everything was rebuilt or painted or powder coated as necessary.
This bike rides like a dream to me. My reference is my restored 1974 CB750K. This bike is so smooth and powerful in comparison. I'm hooked! Not sure how many miles my K4 is going to see this summer.
I do have a few ride ability issues that I am working on, but I am sure, with everyone's help, I'll get those solved as well.
I am still looking for a stock left side of the muffler system (the one I have on now has a bash on the back of the muffler and a dent in the #2 header pipe). If anyone has a lead on either of these parts I would appreciate learning about it.
Again, Thanks to everyone for their help and support. You guys are great!
Scott |

Congratulations!! It is a great feeling after so much work to actually ride it. Looks great!
So, I will swing by on my way to Hornell on May 31 so you don't have to ride out there alone. About 10 AM sound good ?
Nice job!

Attaboy Scott! Now that you're mobile, can you make the NE ride that REAL close to you? |

Beautiful bike, Scott.
Are you running two in-line filters? |

Thanks for the comments everyone. I certainly appreciate it.
Smurdoch,
In line filters, Yes, two of them. How could you tell?
The first is the blue one (do you see a theme here?) hanging out the side like it is. I have another filter underneath the tank - it is one of the clear 90 degree angle filters that makes the corner into the top of the single fuel inlet in the carburetor assembly. I decided to forgo the handy dandy vacuum fuel valve that was on top of the carbs. The main reason for the second filter was to make a neat transition from horizontal to dropping vertical into the carbs.
I may make some changes to this arrangement depending on how the fuel flows. I do like the clear fuel tubing so I can see that everything is working as expected.
I may end up needing to rebuild the petcock. It has been a little troublesome. Guess I'll need one of the Suzuki gaskets to do this operation.

Wow super job there. The touches you added are just right imo.
I like the clear fuel tubing as well. Not to nit-pick but the blue spark plug wire coming under the tank and around the outside of the cylinder looks out of place (i.e. misrouted). What type of wires are they -looks nice for your scheme.

Nice work, now come show it off at the N.E. ride!! I like what you did with the oil cooler/lines. If you ever think of downsizing those big turn signals to some nice LED units, I'll gladly take those big black things off your hands...
Hope to see you in Hornell!

AlaskaGriz,
Thanks for the comments.
The plug wires... I am not sure I am in love with them either, but if/when I make a change, it would probably be to cut them shorter and route them more directly.
I've always loved seeing a custom engine (a bike, car, whatever) with cool looking hardware (like the plug wires). I tried outing the outer wires (#1 and #4) a little longer than necessary so as to be able to see more of the wire (because it fits with the scheme).
To get a blue plug wire, I ended up breaking some other rules. All I was able to find was an 8mm resistor core wire. Two problems with this... First, the 8mm shield doesn't fit (easily) into the CBR coils (or the stock coils for that matter). I had to painfully trim part of the blue silicone from the jacket so as to insert the wire into the coli. Secondly, I shouldn't be using a resistor wire as the plug terminals are the resistor type. Possibly too much resistance. I would have liked to find a blue, 7mm, solid core wire. At least that's how I understood how the ignition system should be wired. Comments are welcome.
The above all being said, the bike starts and runs wonderfully.

CDN1100F,
I had to laugh at your 'Big, Black turn signals' comment... they are hideously large, aren't they? I was looking at the rear tail lamp shortly after I installed it and I measured across the whole assembly. I forget what I saw... maybe 26 inches across? Is that crazy or what?
I ended up going through a lot of turn signal bodies. Keeping the best ones, sanding them and painting them with the SEM Black Bumper coating. Matches the other black plastic parts of the bike.
No wonder they are all broken at this point. They catch everything!
No plans to change them yet (until they are broken by an innocent passer by). Good call on that one!

Scott,
Firstly, I abosultely admire what you've done. Secondly, I am also trying to figure out the plug wire dilema (same thing - resistor wire or not and CBR coils) just as you have except I want yellow wires for my application.
I am also follwing right behind on the SS oil cooler line update.
Again - Great job on your bike!!

Scott i thought maybe you had added a second fuel tee/line for carbs 3+4 and that was where the second filter was heading.
Isn't 2 filters going to restrict flow?
I can't sort out the left side arrangement. Do you have a photo of the 90 degree arrangement. |
