Well, where do I begin? The cb900 performed better than I could imagine. After all the hard work I spent tuning it up and bringing it back to life I feel like the work really paid off. My dad goes to track days often and always rides in the A group, but that old man couldn't pass me, and when I showed him my nose he had to step up his game. I have owned and restored several bikes, but none have I enjoyed as much as this F.
A few things about the bike, insights and what not. It really has a lot of power for a 30 year old bike. The 1100 i was running with couldn't lose me. The large sweeps he would take the lead, but as soon as we got back into the tight turns that 900 really excels. Incredibly nimble with great turn in for such a large bike. Smooth solid power band from 5-8K. Love it!
Now, for the tech stuff and enough of the chit chat. I need a carb sync, plain and and simple. Its running rough down low and I am getting crappy mileage. I need to replace my crappy 120 dourotour with a nice 130 with better rubber.
Ok, ok... now I have got a problem... I am blowing blue smoke and my oil consumption is really high. Like a pint every 500 miles. Its not as bad when I am running it hard, but terrible at start up and city riding. Anyone have any comments or suggestions? I was thinking maybe I have a leaky head gasket and should re-torque my head bolts.
Cheers guys, and if any of you are in norcal we should go riding.

Nice looking bike, but it sounds like your rings might be cooked.
That's pretty high oil consumption. It's just not as noticable when
you're running it hard, it's all behind you then. I doubt you'd get
any improvement by retorquing the head.
Heavier oil like 20W50 might help some, if you're not running it already.
Good luck with it!

Yah, I used some ring free and there was no change. I doubt its the rings. 40K, well maintained. I have heard the seals are troublesome.
What kind of job is that? I am think about just riding it until winter and rebuilding the head then. |

If you still have good compression, the seals can be changed without pulling the head and even without pulling the motor. Do a search, a couple of members have changed them without even pulling the motor. get the seals right here in For Sale / Wanted, great seals cheap |

I am going to go buy a compression tester tomorrow and see what turns up. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I have no idea what kind of pipes they are. The badge was removed and I filled the holes with cap screws. |
