my first time buying armor of any sort outside of my helmet. Should i buy the suit or armor pieces individually? i'm aiming to pick up mx boots (i like the fact that i can wear under pants) and gloves tomorrow. but havn't decided on the rest: chest, knee, elbow, etc... |

Yo back at ya!
Are you buying motocross boots? I would think they are a bit restrictive compared to road boots.
Here's the pro/con about pieces versus a suit from my perspective. A suit WILL stay put when you need it in a crash. Pieces (i'm thinking loose motocross pieces because of the boots) will be great to keep you cool but may shift in an impact on the road. Icon makes elbow and knee armor for on the road, but you can find quality gear for the same price if you hunt online. If you ever get the itch to try out California Superbike School, they will insist you have a suit (or rent one from them).
I got CE armor textile pants from a REV'IT sample sale last year for $100 and leathers for $75. |

Well, considering I wear MX boots, I can't possibly see how you're going to get them inside your pant leg??? MX boots WILL mark up the side panels on your bike. They are not nearly as flexible as road boots either. I also have a pair of Alpinestars, and Teknik road boots. The Alpinestars, are real nice, and can be worn under the pant legs without any problems, but for the most part I wore leathers 99% of the time! My Teknik boots suck, are no better than slippers, and now used for a halloween costume! For road use BUY LEATHERS!!!! If you plan to buy MX armor, and use it under clothing, this is what will happen... If you go down, your clothing WILL wear through. You will then be left with the plastic armour, which will make you slide a whole lot further, than if you were in leather! The armour WILL NOT shift. |
