The slide is actually a few miles north of Deals Gap. You can enter from the southern side and have some fun. But the LEO's can enter as well. |

His first words "Man, I didn't even see it"
He would probably say the same thing after running over a motorcycle.

UPDATE ON THE DRAGON
March 25, 2010 Bidding Process to Begin for Rockslide Repairs Contractors with specialized crews focus on slide on U.S-129/SR-115 KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Work to clear a rockslide that closed U.S.-129/SR-115 is expected to begin early April. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will let an emergency contract to clear the slide on ...Monday, March 29. TDOT qualified two specialty contractors, Pacific Blasting Demolition Ltd. and Phillips & Jordan, Inc., to bid on the project. Both contractors offer specialized experience in rockslide clearance and stabilization that is needed to repair the substantial and complex slide on U.S.-129/SR-115. The emergency contract is expected to be awarded to one of the two specialty contractors on Monday, March 29 with work expected to begin no later than April 5. This will allow contractors time to transport specialized equipment to the site of the slide in Blount County. TDOT’s contract has a completion date of July 31, 2010. Meanwhile, detours remain in place while the stretch of road known as the Dragon is closed from the slide area to the North Carolina state line. Motorists are advised to continue to monitor the TDOT website at Tennessee Department of Transportation for updates and detour details. TDOT is also on Twitter. FROM Deal's Gap Motorcycle REsort and Store...
Ok Gang there is the official word, now remember the 31 July is the date the contractor begins to loose lots of money. They will make more the sooner they finish. We will work tomorrows meeting and hope we can reopen the Dragon in the mean time. Brad |

Oh well, guess we won't be doing the Dragon this year. Boohoo, no speeding tickets for me.
It's alright, there's so many other nicer roads to ride than the Dragon that I for one won't miss it. Only two and a half months to go...... |

I know exactly what you mean, John. We plan to ride a bunch more north and west this year. Only 7 weeks to wait. |

I know, Budd. Looking forward to it. We will be staying at the Best Western this year. The Capri was closed for the winter when we made reservations. I will give you a call when it gets close. |
