This is the hardest things I have ever had to live through.
To the friends and family of Dan, you truly have my sympathies.
On August the 12th I was traveling fro Sault Ste. Marie to the greater Toronto area to visit my mother and family.
Traffic was very heavy so I decided to cut some time by taking a back road. The next thing I remember is waking up in Orilla hospital, to find out I hit a train and lost the life of my oldest daughter. My youngest, who was in the front with me survived with a broken foot, and I survived with a mangled left arm. I have been in and out of St.Michaels hospital where I was flown as soon as my sister arrived to stay with Brooke. I was released the day before the funeral, and had to go back right after for a second surgery.
the details are to long to tell one handed, and it has taken me this long to get the strength to place this post, i am attaching links to the paper articles, I still have to start her web site, but feel up to it now.

I am truely sorry for your loss. I've seen far too many of the good people leaving too early. I like to believe someone up there had a very import job to be taken care of and thus looked down for the greatest person they could find..On that day the greatest new candidate to become an Angel was taken from you for a greater cause. Til you meet with her again... |

First off thank you everyone, I wish I could respond to every post.
peacekeeper you may be right, Megan was an outstanding girl.
In her gr 8 year she turned one of her friends into the principal, knowing it would probably result in the loss of the friend/ This girl was in so much mental anguish that she was cutting her legs with a razor blade to focus the pain physically. Because of this Megan's gradating YEAR WAS HORRID AS ALL HER FRIENDS TURNED against her for squealing, but the girl got the help needed and did make up with her in their first year of high school.
Megan was also the go to girl whenever some one needed someone to talk to, and since her death we have discovered that she had the knack of being able to tell when something was bothering her friends and would make them talk it out with her. She was the ultimate 5th wheel, she refused the clicks and would befriend anyone who needed a friend regardless of what people around her said. She also stopped another girl from running away from home.
She had all her projects finished, and no new ones started.
We had a family party out at her grampa's cottage the weekend before, and I remember her fitting in so well with her older cousins. In previous years she was always stuck to herself with one group of cousins to old and the others to young. 3 yrs one way, 4 the other. I even let her have a beer as the older group was drinking, It was fun to watch as she sipped on the beer not sure if she should or shouldn't be drinking it. I even let her drive the van up the cottage road, as I was planning on starting to teach her to drive. |

There is so much I would love to say, and as things come to me I will add them.
We had 1,300 people come through the funeral home, and so many of them were astounded at how much megan had done in her life. She honestly lived more in 15 years then most adults have.
One last comment for those of us living in North America, do not take railway crossings for granted. This one only had the white x, and trees lined the tracks rigth to the road, according to Anna's brother I would have had to come to a complete stop and edge forward to know if a train was indeed coming. An 18 year old lost his life there in 2001, and the man who came to our aide, a paramedic to boot, was clipped. He lived near to the tracks got us the help we needed and maDE SURE Brooke never saw her sister.
Also the engineer who was driving totally lost it, this was his 9th fatality as an engineer. I do not blame him what so ever as you can't stop a train on a dime, and he did try. We know this as his son lives right beside my mom. I hope to get to talk to him some day as I am sure he is no doubt feeling as guilty as me and Brooke do. Even though i know it happened the what ifs are always there. Brooke changed seats with her sister in Parry Sound, and was the one to first spot the train. She also remembers everything. She was asking me one night that if she hadn't yelled if we might have beat the train.
She is my strength though, at the hospital when the police officer was giving us the bad news, she was telling me that it wasn't my fault. She also has a warped since oh humour which keeps me going during the day. |

I have no children of my own, so I cannot even begin to understand what you are going through. I read through the articles you posted and it is clearly evident that she was an exceptional young woman. I am very sorry. |

Kevin,
hope you don't mind if I post this.
I was reading some of the articles in your local papers and came across this
By Katherine G. MacRae
BayToday.ca
Friday, August 24, 2007
Our community and I believe our country, has suffered a devastating loss with the tragic death of an extraordinary young woman, Megan Marie Doble.
Megan had accomplished so much in her young 15 years as a talented photographer, actress, bilingual academic achiever, artist and writer. Dedicated to improving the lives of everyone through her loving spirit, Megan was also an environmentalist and a non-smoking advocate.
I have no doubt this amazing young woman would have grown up to be a leader in this community and likely of this country, but her time with us was not meant to be long.
Megan was already a leader, a caring and beautifully inspiring individual that shared the gift of her life with friends and family and all who knew her.
With her passing she shared her gift of life, even for those like me that never had the honour to meet her, Megan deeply touched our hearts with her seemingly wise-beyond-her-years poem left behind to remind us that time flows like water and holds no promises as it slips through our hands.
With her family’s blessings I share with you Megan’s poem:
Time is like water
Time is like water
It slips through your fingers
Cup your hands and you can hold it in them for a minute
Once upon a time
Longa and long and long ago
The world they said
Was flat
Not round
Imagine for a moment now
The world was really flat
Travel to the farthest edge
And there you’ll see that water flows
Over, off and away into space
Time is like water
Slowly with out us even knowing
It’s slipping past
Falling off the edge
Time is like water
Without us even seeing
It’s growing shorter
Our time in this place
Is short
And not certain
Tomorrow holds no promises or certainties
All we can do is live in the present
Cherish the past
Hold hope in the future
And cup our hands around our little piece of time
~ Megan Marie Doble

Kevin,
I'm very sorry to hear about your great loss. I'll be praying for you and your family as you cope through this tragedy. I read this thread just before I put my daughter, my oldest, down to bed tonight. She's only 4, but having this on my mind made me give her an extra hug and kiss goodnight, she is such a huge part of my life I cannot imagine not having her. The only words of consolation I can offer are that your precious Megan is now in Heaven, she's getting hugs from Jesus our savior tonight. Let the Spirit fill you and dwell in God's care.
I thought of this verse just now:
Matthew 19:14 - Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." |
