Why Is No One Wearing Helmets?

I think you should have the option to be helmetless or seatbeltless. BUT, sign this insurance form, now your premiums will be ten times higher. your choice. It costs more to fix you so the premium should reflect it. Helmetless riders probably weed whip in flipflops and no eye protection. They weld without a shield and shoot thier firearms withou eye or ear protection. after working on and racing cars and open wheelers, as well as growing up on a farm, I believe in personal protective equipment. I would NEVER get in a race car or go over the wall without it. The bike is the same deal. As you all know and love, the bike IS a racing machine so you must wear appropriate PPE. Forest Gump said it best, "stupid is as stupid does". If you don't wear PPE, YOU ARE STUPID.

Yes you are safer with a helmet, no doubt, but, your infinatly safer if you stay off the motor cycle. So, If safety is your main concern, why do you own & ride a motorcycle? You would be safer hinding in a closet in a climate controlled enviornment.

P.S. been down HARD several times,
A) Alcohol + mootorcycle = 9 days ICU, bruised brain cerebral hemmorage, cracked vertibrae,
B)Drunk in car = broken right ankle, 3 screws,
C) Silver haired driver large car, disregard for stop sign = torn rib cartlidge, shoulder dislocation, torn rotater cuff, cuts scrapes and bruised from ass hole to elbows
I still choose to be helmet free. thats how much I HATE having a bucket on my head.

What we have here is a future Darwin award winner.

I spent today driving around Phoenix, and it struck me how many riders didn't have any sort of helmet at all. I must have seen 20 cruisers today, and I think maybe 2 riders were wearing a helmet. It was kind of strange, actually... I've never seen a helmetless rider on the street in California.

The real kicker was when I saw a guy on a gixxer with a helmet and jacket, and his girlfriend sitting on the back with no gear on at all. Way to be a gentleman, asswipe... On the other hand, I think some women would rather look attractive than be safe. Rolling Eyes

The helmet I got was through Dennis Kirk and it was around $60. Looks like it cost more.

I don't know if you are on a tight budget, broke, or just tight, but, just how much is your head worth? I'm guessing it is worth more than sixty bones. When you can, research and ask around, then purchase a good helmet. And while it might be cool to have a "period" helmet for our "period" bikes, IE a Bell from 1980, forget about it. They get brittle with old age and are unsafe. Todays good helmets are much better. Very Happy

All the research I did led me to believe the opposite. With use and exposure to the elements, helmets and in particular the foam cells can break down, but a NEW old helmet is just that. I use (and love) my 'new' 1986 Shoei:
