[B][I] I've always wondered what the facination with burning rubber was. And I still don't get it. But this looks like fun.

A guy here did that this summer durring a poker run.

When he was done and the smoke cleared there was a big happy face on the road.

about twenty years ago i was on the strip at laconia and the harley guys were having at it. one guy kept his bike in one place and damned if he didnt carve a hole in the pavement 3/4 inches deep. another guy, and this was hillarious, was all smiles as he reved her way up and dumped the clutch. she started burning rubber but about ten seconds later his wheel wasnt turning anymore. this poor dumb bastard just kept grinning from ear to ear while his bike sat there running wide open as the whole crowd was laughing and cheering. needless to say when he was done putting on his show and he attempted to leave we could not stop laughing. it was twenty years ago and i'm laughing now!! Very Happy

Burn outs are fun. I did this one just before the Honda Hoot. I had a new tire waiting to install and I always wanted to do one.

when I put the cbr wheel on Razor F I did one for about 10 seconds. I do standing burnouts in my camaro all the time! Very fun and takes a little skill to do it right... ask Ray how to do one on the F he seems to be good at it Laughing

Rolling burnout is not hard. You just need to learn how to control your front brake.

The rear tire spinning fast makes it easy to balance.

But yeah I need new tire, so I think I will do my first real burnout for more that a second or too soon.

And if I can do it good on my 750F, I know a 1100F will tear them off the rims. Twisted Evil

I've always had the same question? What's the point? Ruining a $140 tire? The possibility of breaking a chain; or worse a tranny or engine case if the chain broke? Not to mention the wear on the clutch?

I don't get it....I really don't. Just to do it? I've got better things to do with my money than replace tires, clutches over showing off...for what?

Some of us like them, some don't. I can't find my 1100F pix, so will have to make do with CBX burnout.

I don't get it & never have, but those who do, more power to ya.
As a teenager I did 1 or 2 burns, but then as now, tires are expensive. I did once do a 100-yard burn in my dad's truck: 300-horse 350 Chevy p/u, with studs on. They other rednecks said it looked like a fireworks show, just smoke & sparks. I just couldn't stand to back off as long as it was still spinning. Speedo was up to 90 or so--damned wonder I didn't trash the transmission. TB

I used to do that on the ice around the stores that had good shade in the parking lots.

Speed said I was doing 120mph or more.
But everything else said I was doing around 5mph.
Only time I got to really use the 5th gear in my truck.

My Dad brought me his '67 Cutlass Supreme 330 cu.in./320 bhp for a tune up when I was working after school at a dealership. I did the tune up and then pulled it outside along side the building. The alley way was about 600' feet long and I thought, "why not?" so I let it start to just begin to roll and then nailed it - the speedo was bouncing and all I could see out of the rear window and mirrors was clouds of smoke...later I walked it off and I left about 153' of good old american rubber on the asphalt.

About two weeks later, my Dad was driving me to school and when he pulled away from the stop sign we both heard a whining noise and noticed a transmission slip..my Dad said, "I guess I'll have to take this in for your uncle to look at, the trans seems to be slipping." Cost him more than a few dollars to have it repaired and I've felt bad about that all my life. Embarassed

When I built my "race cars" my pride and joy was a '73 Corvette convertible with the removeable hardtop. I spent four years building it into a Porsche eater - a B/Production race car on the street - 411 bhp at the rear wheels. I may have "spun" a tire coming out of a turn while racing, but I never dumped the clutch on it for the sake of seeing tire smoke - not with 6 universals back there. I spun the car more than once..both on the street and on the track...but I never purposefully abused what I had spent hard earned money to create. It didn't make sense.

As far as my CB1100F goes...I feel the same way. Why abuse it? I love the power and love the acceleration, but I have never lit the tire on purpose. Probably the 3rd or 4th day I owned it I got it a little hard with a little clutch action and the damn thing scooted sideways and almost out from under me....that is reason #2. I don't want my stupidity causing me to have to spend money to put something back together again just for the sake of showing off. My ego just isn't that fragile that it needs to influxed with showing off and other people going ouuuuu-ahhhh.

i did it on an icey road as a teenager in my parents chrysler. i was traveling about 30mph and the road was arrow straight. laid into it Twisted Evil

and watched the speedo climb to about 80 before the thing shot completely sideways and into the trees. Shocked

dooooh!!! no more chrysler. Embarassed

mom and dad were not impressed. Evil or Very Mad

as far as doing it on my bikes. not so much. its a bitch to clean out all that rubber. i will have to start practicing my launches again though. it feels great when you get one pretty damn good.

The crowd will just have to wonder...just as I would and the guy on that green piece of shit would.

The way I look at it they would be more interested in looking at perfectly pristine 23+ year old bike. Each of them already has picked the winner.

Sometimes you don't have to do anything - and that's enough for everyone.

Been there once. Now I just expect worse and get plesently suprised.

Hey, I would not risk damaging my F. I just do not see it that way. The tire I have on there has little grip as it is. Just stopping is hard without skidding. But when the tire is old I will try a goon one. Not to the point of damaging my F. Tire, and chain may be the first to go. But I suspect the tranny will take a little burn out.
