It's a 1981 CB900F with 30,500 km as of July, 2001.
I purchased it in the fall of 1999 for $1200 (Canadian). The bike was
in great shape mechanically but looked awful. It had only 24,000km on it.
The seat was torn, the Kerker 4 into 1 pipes were rusty, the brakes were badly worn, the
center stand was missing, the paint was chipped and the graphics were peeling. BUT, it ran
like a new bike and had new rubber!
The kick stand was salvaged from a wrecker's and a new piece was made
to hold it in place as it's stopper is missing with no pipes on the left side.
The header pipes were sanded down and coated with 8 coats of Rustoleum BBQ paint and then
baked over the BBQ for an hour to set the paint. Don't laugh, it works! The brake pads and
cracked lines were replaced. The seat was recovered and a small sport fairing was added. The
whole bike was sanded down and painted in Chrysler Marine Blue. The original graphics had been
traced and they were redone by a sign shop and then the whole thing got 6 clear coats.
It looks great and runs better! It turns a lot of heads and has surprised a few people. Some of
the new riders on their road rockets are not expecting what this bike can dish out.
