I said no more bikes, no room, but this one popped up and I couldn't resist. Parked for over 20 years, lots of miles, one owner, in fairly good shape - who could say no? A good price I think too. It even runs. Noisy clutch, needs a kit I think. A great winter project!

Nice find!
Just curious what do you consider "lots of miles"? |

104,000 kms or about 60,000 miles. Previous owner said it was mainly highway miles. Motor has good compression on all 4., |

Nice find! Nothing wrong with 100K + kms as long as it's been maintained and taken care of. I have 108650 on mine and it still looks great.
I wonder if it has had the stock pipes on all it's life? Are they still in decent condition?
Cheers!

Compression got to 180 on all 4. Stock exhaust, number 2 needs some welding done. He has a patch on it which I haven't looked under it yet. I just went through the carbs. It starts fine and idles nicely. Brake lines and seals coming in the mail. Gas tank is filled with vinegar to prep for POR-15 sealant. Next I'll check the valve clearances. The previous owner kept good records of his maintenance. It will need tires too. |

Work progresses, brakes upgraded with new seals and ss brake lines, new fork seals and bushings, engine removed from the frame for good cleaning and paint touch ups and reinstalled, the hole in #2 pipe repaired, repop seat cover has arrived, Carbs gone through, tires going to be ordered this week. Still a list of things I want to do. It may turn into a red one in the spring. A good friend is quite insistent about going to red as he had one and it's one of the few bikes he's had that he's sorry he sold.

Going deeper! New wheel bearings on their way. I'm farther into this than I though I would be going but the bike deserves it. This will probably be my last "restoration" so taking my time is a good thing.

As of yesterday. The gauge mount needs a coat of paint and I'll start on the headers later today. It needs to warm up a bit here first. Still some touch ups on the engine to do.

Hadn't heard of the header paint/clear cote combo. Will be interested in seeing how holds up. VHT brand?
Please do report back when you get the bike back on the road. |

Looks great, Cliff. I hope that the paints you used are high temp. Don't be surprised if the gloss finish dulls after a couple of heat cycles. If it does hold up, a lot of people here will want to know what you used. |

It's off the lift and a Collector plate applied for which gives us cheaper insurance here in BC. It does appear the clear coat on the pipes has dulled or burned of. I try another application of it.

So jealous of the insurance and license programs you have in B.C. |
