Terry, aka "Grumpy32" is getting a new right hip tomorrow. He's a good friend and we have been talking a lot about the misery leading up to the surgery and how much better it is afterwards. He's very anxious to get this done so he can resume a relatively normal life. Have good thoughts for him and wish a speedy recovery so that he can get back on his bikes and ride! |

Best of luck Terry.
My mum had a new hip installed a couple of years ago and it has worked out wonderfully. |

Best to you Terry. I've had both hips replaced, one in '89, the other a bit over 3 years ago. Do the therapy. |

Terry just called to let me know that the surgery went well and he's doing ok. They already had him up and walking a bit. Great news.
I know the deal with this, having gone through it 4 years ago. Hips are a piece of cake compared to all the other joint replacements. I was down in my basement shop mocking up RMI a week later, so recovery goes fast. Hopefully in Terry's case, he'll be driving within a week or two and getting around with little difficulty. |

Terry has been giving me daily updates and is improving with each day. The first couple of days are the worst and are the days that you have to force yourself to get up and move around. He walked a few times yesterday and seemed pleased with himself. I told him to push for a new goal of at least 5 times today.
He was barely there 24 hours and then was sent home with no instructions. That's ridiculous. But at least he's doing better and getting more mobile. I bet he'll be doing a lot better within a week. |

No instructions? That is nuts!
Physio, wound care and medication follow-ups are incredibly important.
Just like an engine, break-in procedures on a new hip can make or break how well it will perform.
Glad to hear he is feeling better. |

Totally nuts. I was sent home with good instructions and PT began at home within a couple of days. I was back to my old self in no time, thanks to good care. Terry is a hearty guy, so he'll be back on his game soon. |

Glad to hear your home and out of the hospital. I don't think that being in a Florida hospital is going to be too healthy for anyone these days. And now there's a hurricane wandering up the coast
Take care Terry |

I can finally sit at my computer and thank all you guys for
the kind words, thoughts and prayers sent my way this week.
I really had no idea what i was letting myself in for having this done.
it has knocked me for a loop, and the pain killers and mussel relaxers
are making it difficult to think and focus.
So thanks again fellows. |

Glad you're able to sit at your computer. Pls follow all exercises, etc your phys therapist gives you, very important for future flexibility & mobility. My neighbor went thru same op & ignored therapist....didn't end well. Hope you're riding again soon. Ed |

Hey Terry. Good to hear from you. It gets better, really. Yes, do the therapy. You should be able to get home therapy, and wound care. |

I didn't bother trying for home therapy. Just go to the surgeons office. they sure beat me up, but of course, if they don't
they aren't doing their job. |
