It is always a good day, my friends, when parts arrive from Massachusetts:

Image

from my good friend Tom. This box includes the bonus of having my wife's sunglasses, which were left at Mike's house last month.

This is another "set" of calipers. The reason for the quotations around set, is that I discovered that I'd given him two right front calipers, instead of a right and left.

No, I had not been drinking when I did so, although I have tonight... Maybe that's my problem...

To those of you who have not yet opened a "box of goodies" from Tom, you truly are missing out:

Image

These calipers look nicer than they did when they left the factory! Now I just need to find the two left fronts (and hopefully another rear caliper), and get them done as well.

Toms work MUST be seen to be believed, photographs do not do them justice...

Those look awesome. That is something to consider regarding my calipers in the future.

Duke, you are welcome to see the quality of Toms work anytime you want. I can't recommend him highly enough, sir. Glad to see you over here on the F (dark) side, LOL.

The Dark side, eh? Yes, I will take you up on the offer. I have been curious about how your bike is running as well. Hopefully this cold spell won't last long.

Currently jetted 80/120, with 1 shim under the stock needles. Runs better, but "not quite there" if you know what I mean. I need to order some larger jets (maybe 125 and 130), and go from there. This time, I'll go with you on the 1100, and we'll give it a good run...

Hopefully this weekend will warm up.

I know what you mean. When I had similar problems with my bike the shims and larger jet size didn't help much in my case but enough to make you think you were on to something. It just turned out that wasn't where my problem was.

I think tomorrow it is going to be in the twenties. The cool thing about NM it doesn't stay too cold for long.

I got a couple of goodies in the mail today one being a R/R from Oregon Motorcycle Parts and some winter riding gloves go figure on the coldest day of the year. Smile

Cliffiec, when evaluating your calipers pay attention, the rear will look like a right or a left(don't know which one) but has smaller pistons.

Hmmmm, perhaps we've stumbled upon a great marketing idea. A bottle of Jack with orders over a certain amount? Cool

Yes sir, as I understand it the casting for the right and the rear are the same, but you are correct, the rear pistons are smaller.

BTW, one of the reasons that these calipers that come back from Tom are so nice is that he bead blasts the bore, which makes them (the bores) look like brand spank me new. Assembling them with a new rebuild kit is super easy (they "fall right together"), because there's no gunk under the seals, and the pistons slide right in. His attention to detail is outstanding.

Hey Rick. Looking good. Doesn't the rear caliper have an extra little boss and screw hole at the back that the goofy little fender for the disc fits? How do you like the JD Honey?

Yes, sir, that is true, as well. I happen to like the goofy little fender (no offense taken, LOL), and only the NE bike is missing one. Once I find a good rear caliper, I will get that one done, as well.

JD Honey is very serviceable, if you know what I mean. Tasty.

Hey Rick. I've sampled a few of the various "spiced" whiskeys and "honey" bourbons but just seem to fall back into the old standby Manhattan. PGS will vouch for me on that one. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the spring. Rick, have a good one and remember us in the Great White North when it's a little cold out your back door; 2-1/2" of snow on Saturday evening and we're not riding until late April.

Well, the day finally arrived, another parts shipment from TomK. His usual beautiful work, and these are the parts I need for finish the front end rebuild of the 900. Yes, I know that these are 1100 forks, just goes to show that someone (a previous owner) used to love this bike, too.

The brake caliper will get rebuilt, and go to Pennsylvania for the NE bike, the rear brake parts will go on the 1100. My bikes are getting better with each box that arrives from Massachusetts!

Thanks Tom, you are the man!

Fed-Ex paid me a visit today with a box from Tomk. Cool

Image

Tom take the extra time to make sure EVERY item is always packed with the greatest of care, each item is individually double wrapped, cloth inside and thick bubble wrapped outside.

Tom is a perfectionist and a true master craftsman - it shows in every piece he does. The items are stunning, the pictures do not do his work justice

Many thanks Tom

And when you post pics of stuff from Tom, aren't you supposed to sneak in a bottle or can of what your drinking? Wink

Cheers!!

Chris - that's a black chrome finish on the mirrors and grab bars. It's a three coat process with a base of metallic silver and two topcoats of black chrome powder. You have to see them in person to really appreciate the deep finish. If you make it to the spring NE ride, you can see them on my bike and Larry's.

I was wondering the same thing about the missing bottle. There should be some Jack Black, Jim Beam, Canadian Mist, or something similar in those shots. Cliffie set a precedent that must be maintained. Wink

Dog,

Combining your Olanzapine with Red Bull is not a good idea. lucky you had some flavored mouthwash to clear that up.
Next time, please post a longer ride report and the rest of the pics.
