our first run out this year, weather was perfect so we headed up to the Yorkshire Dales,
stopped at Hawes for fish and chips
then made out way to devils bridge, hundreds of bikes out today
some of the young kids were juming into the river, its about a fifty foot drop
stopped to take a photo ,didn't realise how many bugs i have collected today
now i need to spend a couple of night cleaning her up ready for bank holiday weekend ,
checked our milage, getting over 45mpg today, two up, so pretty happy about that |

Hi Colin, the pics are good, you have some nice scenery and roads up there.
Bike is looking good, you will have to get it nice and shiny again before Mallory
Tattoo, the Bank Holidays are public holidays in the UK,a total of 8 this year, and as the name says it is a day when the Banks and other business are closed for trading,it started with an act of parliament in 1871 when there were 4 holiday days.

Thanks for the comments on the bike guys, the roads up in the dales are great for
the bikes with great views thrown in,
just found out there was a two bike head on crash a couple of miles from Hawes yesterday, both riders were killed,
its a real shame two families lost someone for no good reason, there are roads up here that i will not use at the weekend
its just to dangerous, ive had too many close shaves with oncoming bikes it scares me to use the roads, especially with the wife onboard |

There are old bikers and bold bikers but no old bold bikers, some of the roads our way are the same, i avoid them if i can, guys just get a bit beyond themselfs and its game over, never get sucked in to pushing the envelope, i concentrate on smooth, speed tends to be a buy product of this but as soon as i feel i'm trying to push it i back off, shame these riders collected each other, but glad you and the misses got home safe Col.

I love those old English villages - brings back many a memory. You cannot beat the pubs and the bitter they produce!!!! |

Yes James or Alf Wight to give him his real name was based in Thirsk which is about thirty miles from Hawes |

Devils Bridge? |
Just did a quick Google for some info
Devil's Bridge Kirkby Lonsdale
dating from around 1370 and constructed of well masoned fine gritstone. It consists of three spans, the western two measuring 17 m (54 ft 8 in) each and the eastern one 8.8 m (29 ft). The piers are hexagonal, measuring 18 m (60 ft) round.
A great flood will easily reach the base of the arches and run over the tops of the cutwaters. In common with many bridges of the same name, legend holds that the Devil appeared to an old woman, promising to build a bridge in exchange for the first soul to cross over it. When the bridge was finished the woman threw bread over the bridge and her dog chased after it, thereby outwitting the Devil. |

Ha!
I lived less than 10 minutes walk from Devils Bridge for about 5 years. My son Matt leapt off the bridge once - not when I was looking thank goodness. That is a big biker gathering spot on a Sunday - the bacon sandwich and cup of tea is legendary. Sadly there are quite a few fatalities around there - it's not especially obvious why (more than anywhere else), but there are. The countryside round there is lovely. Nice to see those pics - brings back memories.
