I'm thinking about selling my bike. I bought it in 1984 from a friend who bought it new.

It has about 12k miles on it, and i don't really ever ride it (I have 4 other motorcycles). It basically all stock except I had he pipes coated and changed the clutch basket to eliminate the chatter. It needs to be repainted, I dented the tank in 1984 and repainted it to OEM colors. Unfortunately, the clear yellowed and checked in the mere 30 years since I painted it.

My thought for selling is to simplify things. It's just another thing to care for. It starts right up and runs well. The carbs will drip if I don't start it occasionally. The headlight went out, assume it's done. It fell off a poorly setup dolly and ruined one of the levers and broke the signal. I think it needs fork seals.

If I pull the trigger, how best to sell it? EBAY, cycle trader? I can do the couple or few things other than repainting. and it's pretty clean overall, no oil leaks or anything like that. How is the market for these now?

I know many of you watch the market, so tell me what is best approach to selling it?

Thank you

I would start by putting ads up on FB marketplace and CL. Expect some nutcases to come out of the woodwork, but there are also informed buyers out there. If you have no luck after a few weeks, you could contact Iconic Motorbikes and have them put it up for bid. Take lots of pictures and provide plenty of details. Price-wise, you can always start high and see where it goes. The market is somewhat flat lately and now that we're in the off-season for riding here in NE, potential buyers will offer less than they would in the spring. I'm just taking a stab, but I'm thinking you could try starting at $7K, although it might be a stretch. The paint situation could be an expensive fix, unless there's a shop that can wet sand everything and apply a fresh clearcoat.

There are other folks here that will know better on an asking price - just my .02.

Thanks, I can wait until spring, I've owned it for 40 years!

Unfortunately, I tried the wet sanding and all I did was make a mess. It needs paint to make it nice.

Probably worth more like $5?
