Container is scheduled to arrive on June 24th. Today is my last day in PA - I have a flight out this evening to LA, then the final flight to NZ tomorrow. Dismantling 22 years of 'life' here has been a shit load of work. Saying goodbye to friends has been tough.
Quarantine starts on the 29th. 14 days of confinement in a hotel somewhere in NZ - not looking forward to that part of the journey AT ALL. |

Peter, I wonder if you had gotten the vaccine before you left if you still would have had to quarantine? |

Yep - I have had both shots, but NZ still makes you go through the quarantine process. |

Oh - and 2 x weeks in a hotel is going to suck and I will probably go out of my mind with boredom - but I'm not complaining about the process. NZ are being cautious, but it's working for them so far, so I'm OK with that. |

It will be all worth it in the end. Safe travels Peter. |

Pete thought you were gone already, just spent last weekend in a cabin at Raystown. If I was up on current news and knew you were still here I would have invited you up for a beer. We’ll have a safe trip and good luck with that quarantine. Keep us posted on your journey. |

I would have been up for that - Raystown is (was?) close - and I've been holed up in an empty house getting everything finalized for the move. |

I'm assuming that under the current MIQ regs you're paying for your own accomodation. Remember - the mini-bar is extra - but the WIFI is free.....
And please don't have a naughty night with a staff member. You'll be all over national television if you do.
Re certification etc for the bike and car. I've got a mate in Tauranga who's the NZ agent for a pom collector moving much of his collection to NZ. He's been through the procerss with several vehicles already and would I'm sure be available to help.
Travel safely.
Greg. |

Whoop, whoop - container has left Brisbane and arrives in Auckland in 4 days. What are the chances the BigCrank starts the 900? |

Good news Peter, hope everything is in working order when you take delivery and never underestimate the power of a big crank. Good luck |

Depends if it has to be steam cleaned before it's handed over. And how thorough the cleaner is.... |

My Son came over to Aus few years ago with a group of speedway teams. You can imagine the mud in every unimaginable place on these cars and before they were allowed to be put back in the shipping containers they had to be cleaned to a point you could eat off them. There was days spent cleaning and inspecting every component before the containers were locked up |

No cleaning required on either the bike or the car - all initial MPI and border checks passed OK.
Dragging a trailer up to Auckland tomorrow to pick up the bike - T/A is off to begin the certification process Thursday;
Love the XC Cobra (or XC Cobra replica) parked next to the T/A. |

The tank had to be pretty empty of gas prior to shipping. While the bike was on the trailer yesterday, I stopped at a gas (petrol) station on the way home and topped the tank up with fresh gas.
I just went out, turned the petcock on, let it sit for a minute or two and it burst into life straight away. I'm pretty happy with that given it's been crated in a shipping container for the past 4 months.
Gotta love AGM batteries |

That has to feel good, Peter.
Just curious, what are license and insurance fees like? |

Registration is tied to capacity - bikes over 601cc are $519.87 per year (that's NZ dollars). Until I get the car and bike certified I only have fire and theft insurance - but overall insurance seems pretty reasonable. |

Thanks Mike! I'm definitely looking forward to getting out on the bike and exploring some of the local roads.
On an unrelated note - drove the T/A to the folks that are managing the compliance process for us. Weird driving on the LH side of the car AND the LH side of the road;

I guess the price of fuel was a bit of a shock to the system and before long you will answer every question at the end with ehy? |

The price of EVERYTHING was a shock to the system. Don't get me started on house prices! |

Who is doing the compliance for you. Are they doing both.
Wish I had bought My XC back from Australia when I left and kick myself about it often . |

Quick update - progress is slow!
The T/A is still sitting in Auckland with the folks that are managing the compliance with us. COVID lockdowns have put a stop to any progress there.
Took the bike down to a local bike shop yesterday for a 'Brake Certification'. This is required as part of the compliance process. The shop removed the calipers to check everything out and recorded the pad depth as well as the rotor width to make sure everything was in spec. So I now have that part of the compliance puzzle in hand. Our nearest compliance center (that does motorcycles) is in Tauranga (about an hour away) so the bike is booked in there 3 weeks from now. Once complied, I can get a plate and registration and actually take the thing out for decent ride.
On a different note COVID lockdowns have made the house buying process difficult, but we managed to find a new place and sell our current place at the same time. Everything is now unconditional and we move into the new place (still in Waihi) on October 26th. |

A "safety" just for the brakes? That's nuts!
Everybody gets a piece of the pie.
Congrats on the house. |

Glad to hear everything is moving along (although slow) Pete. Should just be getting into nice riding weather, take care and be safe riding on the wrong side of the road. |

Dropped the bike off at a compliance center today - it's being inspected on Wednesday - fingers crossed it all goes well!

If we ride on the right hand side of the road it is always the right side, it can't be the wrong side |

The compliance center just called to tell me the bike failed.
The bulb is out for the high beam indicator. Not sure how long it has been out - it's been a while since I've ridden at night.
The compliance center only do compliance and not repairs. They're are going to allow me to repair it there, so tomorrow I'm making the drive there and back (an hour each way) to remove 4 screws and replace a bulb.
I guess I should be happy that everything else passed and that's the only problem they found |
