Has anyone used this CBX kit to repair the sport kit shifter? I saw some threads on folks replacing the Heim joints (like the incredible SteveG) but was wondering if this was everything in a complete kit:

The part number does not cross reference to anything by Honda in the US but CMS says it for the CBX which certainly looks similar.

I can't speak directly about this kit but on the CBX the Heim ball-stud is riveted onto the pedal or gearshift arm. Not a separate piece. I don't see that here.

I don't get what the brass bushings are for. Are they to replace the brass insert at the shifter pivot point (on a CBX)?

Here's another view of a similar kit (with it installed on a CBX sifter - I think - in the background):

I think you are spot on, from the same web site:

So i guess you re-use the ball when updating the hardware.

And another pic of a complete kit:

Yes, one right-hand and one left-hand M6 thread.

FWIW, the CBX shifter pivot shaft is larger than the F bikes so the brass bushing are superfluous. I used a CBX shifter on my 750 and had to make a bushing for it to fit.

Seems pretty expensive for what you get. The ball socket things are only a couple of bucks on eBay. I guess you're paying the extra $'s for the rubber covers and one socket with a left hand thread Laughing (which isn't strictly necessary, although a new rod would be required if you wanted to use two right hand threaded sockets).

One of the sockets has a grove - my bet is that indicates a left hand thread.

$11 each for the McMaster-Carr joints used by SteveG plus $10 for the two rubber boots, kit seems fairly priced.

Honda still makes the boots. I bought two. Didn't seem like they were expensive as I recall

$5 each at Partzilla and assuming they fit the McMaster-Carr replacements (6275K53/6275K63) from genesound via SteveG so you are looking at $32 of parts (plus shipping).

Sounds very reasonable for a rebuild to me.

Hello!

The boots are not needed with the McMaster Carr joints (which are sealed units). The Honda boot is to keep crud out of the joint. As the McMaster Carr joints are already sealed, the only reason for the Honda boot would be for the OEM look.

How I rebuilt the shifter: Sport Kit Shifter Rebuild

Steve

Yes the Brass bushing are to replace the gear pedal bushes, the same bushes also fit the CB1100R/B/C and D

I found shipping to be very high from CMS . I bought a small part for $12 and shipping was around $18 Somebody needs to order a bunch of these and then resell them here in US where shipping is reasonable for small parts .

Hello Luckysox. First up - extreme apology for thread drift. Tried to PM you and post on the appropriate thread, are you still making/selling centre stand stops?

OH, and I agree about the shipping from CMS, particularly to Australia!

Regards,

Chris

I emailed the CBX company yesterday to inquiry about the kits and am awaiting a reply.

Here is what I have back on these:

-------
The kit will fit on the CB750 -CB900 and the CB1100 bol dor types

When you only want to buy the ball joint set, than i can make a price of
R 6.00 each
L 7.00each
Dust cover 5.50 each
S&H cost 19.50
All prices in EUROS

installation document will be including
-------

I checked the CBX and it is a 14mm pivot (12mm for F bikes) so the bushings can't be used. Shipping and handling is pricy for a single set but if there was interest in a group buy of the ball joints it it would be about US$15 + shipping (intl and domestic). Honda still has the covers so they can be picked up locally or get them with the ball joints.

So what kind of interest is there?

No interest from anyone in a set of replacement ball joints? Cost would be about $22 shipped if there were 5 sets in a group buy.

Only US bikes with sport kits use them, none of the stock 750f/900f/1100f use them.

If yours aren't rusted up and not too sloppy I wouldn't bother. I just want a set to try out on a beat up shifter I have.

I might be interested in a couple of sets if you get enough buyers to get the shipping cost from them to you down to a reasonable figure .

If that's joints AND dust covers, I'm in for a set. Shifter rubber would be nice to have too.

That is just the ball joints with shipping (€7 + €6), dust covers and change pedal rubber are available from Honda and would add another $14 or so.
