OLDSCHOOLCARBS

I had a set of CB1100F carbs that needed a lot of work, (fuel leaking from the fuel rails and float bowls). Sad

So I called OLDSCHOOLCARBS and left my phone number and a message explaining that I needed a set of carbs rebuilt.

Jack called me back that day and after a brief and pleasant conversation with him I boxed up a set of carbs and headed to USPS.

The first 2 pictures show what I sent to OLDSCHOOLCARBS, and the other pictures show the results of their excellent work!

After receiving them, I installed them on the CB1100F and it fired up immediately, just using the choke. I'm very, very happy with the end result, and so was the gentleman who just bought the bike today!

Very nice!! We sure have some talented people on this board!! Not only that, but they are willing to share their talents with the 'not so mechanically inclined'!
I am going to have to break down and take my carbs off one of these days...

I had similar dealings with Jack a few years ago now. I had actually forgot who did my carbs for me, but now I remember.

Jack supplied a set of carbs to save me posting mine from Australia and I think he charged me similar to what I would have paid for postage. He rebuilt them for a fair price.

I remember him being a good bloke to deal with. I put them on the bike and it started on first crank.

Glad I saw this post so I will now lock that into my memory if I need carbs again one day.

Hey Jack I think I have that vacuum fuel tap thing I was going to send back because I didn't use it. But I forgot at the time and then time passed. Let me know if you need it cause I think I know where it is.

we do very similar work as well at CBBoneYard.com. done several dohc sets in the past several sets. Jack and i have had some contact through FB and he is super knowledgable.

I looked on your site and seen a price of $318.75. Is that per carb or per set of 4 carbs?

Am I confused but did this jamoke just stick his head up and try to claim credit or steal credit away from the intended recipient? Unless, Jack (handle = Oldschoolcarbs) changed his name to IBleedHondaRed, then you sir had absolutely no business posting about your "similar service" more over talking prices here. Jack has worked hard for the credit he has earned. I remember when he first began posting and it took time and work on his part to gain trust, confidence and respect.
You, on the other hand, have contributed a grand total of 28 post here and should restrain from hijacking someones reputation and business.

There's lots of people flogging their wares on this site for free. Why can't he? I didn't detect any badmouthing of any competitor, all I see is an alternative offer of a similar service. The customer can decide for themselves. Don't you guys pride yourselves on a free market economy?

My feeling is the thread was clearly started as a thank you and an unsolicited promotion of a specific individual. I think it takes a certain type of person to think it is cool to just side step into anthers lime light and worse yet try to earn a dime of the others back. Let the guy have the attention and credit the OP intended and if you want to sell your wares or services to the community make your own post, contribute and earn the business.

I can see what mwe is saying. This thread started as an accolade for how well carbs were cleaned and rebuilt by a particular member. It would seem that it is inappropriate for another member to "jump on the bandwagon" and potentially steer business his way.

I had to go back and re-read the thread to understand what mwe was stating. I initially did not take it that way but I do understand what he is saying. Perhaps it would have been better to start a separate thread. After all its not like a third person was extolling the work of IbleedHondaRed, but IbleedHondaRed himself. Perhaps that is the reason for mwe comments.

Just to clarify something, Jack didn't ask me to put a plug in for his service, and I agree with toonces "that they do great work!"

I just thought I'd confirm that OCS does outstanding work and I respect Jack for coming on board to post pictures of carbs and explaining the process they go through to get your carbs rebuilt.

I got off my ass and went to OLDSCHOOLCARBS website. Their basic service is $325 + $30 return shipping. I read their write up
on their service and really liked what I read.

First off, let me apologize for all of the feelings i seem to have stepped on as well as toes, it was not my intent to cause you all any pain or steal business from any members. as i said, i have had some contact with Jack through facebook and he has proven to be very knowledgeable on the VM29's i am currently restoring and that credit was given. if he is a member here and this was meant to be a shout out to him then i do apologize. my impression was that this was a review of a business service that i too offer and was doing nothing more than expanding your options because i am sure that he and i are not the only 2 games in town. if jack is a member or a supporting vendor here then i most sincerely apologize to him for butting in. my contact with him has not been through the forum, it has been through facebook but i guess im not surprised to find him here as alot of guys like us have to broaden our horizons and pursue business and help where we can. although we have done rebuilds on plenty of these carbs, the reason for finally joining the forum was because we picked up an 1100f and wanted some input and help with the build without pissing everyone off and butchering it like DCC did.

IN NO WAY WAS I TAKING CREDIT FOR HIS WORK and i think that anyone with a decent grasp of the english language can plainly see that.

Hopefully one day i will earn your trust, confidence, and respect as jack has. until then, i just hope you grow some thicker skin and learn how to be a little more political and less of an asshat

In just about every forum on the internet it's considered poor etiquette to try and piggyback off a competitor's thread in order to sell your goods and services. This is true for private sellers with classified ads or vendors conducting business on the forum. In this case someone posted up a thread about OSC to give credit for a positive experience.

If you are going to conduct business in internet forums, you will have to get used to the fact that some things are universally frowned upon no matter where you go, kinda like typing in all caps. If you want to pitch your services, start your own thread, or reply to members asking for help. Latching on to another seller's thread will likely get your wrist slapped and being bitchy about it will only serve to alienate the very customers you are trying to attract.

FWIW: everyone has the ability to be an A-hole. people can handle situations however they see fit. it's an individuals ability to conduct oneself in a civil manner that sets them apart

i admit, it's pushing it. however, civility was returned to all that displayed it. clearly i struck a nerve with him. but as we see, folks will act however they want from the safety of the flat screen.
