I just discovered your fabulous web-site last
night. Here is the story of my bike. It is a 1981 CB900F Super Sport. I
bought it brand new on May 15, 1981. It cost me $4187. Canadian dollars
including the optional Hondaline crash bar and sales tax!!! The last 6
digits of the serial number are 003865. As of November 26, 2003, I have
driven it 31,200 kilometers ( nearly all of the mileage on the highway
enjoying driving it on warm sunny days in the interior of British Columbia.)
I still have the original brake pads and the
original chain. I oil the chain every 400 kilometers which creates a
nightmare keeping the rear wheel clean. I took the original exhaust off on
July 8, 1983 when the bike had 7,121 kilometers on it. I have the exhaust
stored in my basement. I replaced the original tires on August 25, 1987 at
12,731 kilometers. I still have the original tires because they have lots of
tread left, and I thought they would look good back on the bike one day.
(for display)
I have been caught in the rain twice on my
weekend trips and the last time in 2001 I practically disassembled the bike
cleaning it. At that time I refinished the Ontario Moto Tech 4 into 1
exhaust in a ceramic "ice grey" The only options I have added besides the
exhaust and crash bar, are Wes Cooley Superbike bars, Black mirrors off a
650 Suzuki, and a FM2 Shoei Fairing.
I have changed the battery five times in 22
years, changed the oil 24 times, replaced the alternator and fork seals once
at 18,165 km, and installed a new rotor at 24,683kms. The bike is alot of
fun to drive and lots of people ask me if it is brand new! The only thing
that I don't like is the seat----- when is someone going to design a seat
that doesn't require a massage after a ride????
Hope you enjoy the attached 6 photos.
