November 2000 Update...
Well earlier this spring I found out that the putz who owned the bike before
me NEVER adjusted the inside number 2 exhaust valve. The one just below
the tach gear assembly. Too late for me, it was burnt..... Removed head
and barrel, replaced bad valve and rings with help from a great friend,
had head, guides and springs checked, (all within tolerances).
I reassembled the top end and enjoyed a fantastic summer of riding. Of
course running accross a set of Mikuni VM-33 smoothbores, Koni rear
shocks, 140mph speedo assembly, installing a high voltage coil kit with
wires, Splitfire plugs and aluminum swingarm sure helped too. I can
almost pull the same wheelies I used to do with my old 84 Ninja 900.
I'm now somewhere around 46,000 miles and am enjoying every minute spent on
the bike. Sure the Haybushas, 929s and 900rrs' blow past me like Im
standing still, but I get plenty of positive comments. Hell, even the
Harley riders like and respect this bike........
